I'll give it a shot -- in a few days -- and hope that Crystal forgets her earlier emails to me!

Hi Scott

You won't believe this... When writing my last post I had forgotten that in reply to her last email I too had written off something along the lines of your email to Crystal, hoping to extract a refusal:

Thank you for your email. I have now had a chance to look over the Safe & Smart plan benefit sheet that you sent me, and it says, under 6(d)(i), that: "You or your spouse must be between the ages of 18 years to 61 years to qualify for cover." As I have emailed you before, we are both over 61. Does this mean that Chartis Insurance will not be able to cover us due to age?

Would you believe, here is Crystal's response:

Thank you for your email.

My apologies to over look on your age. Yes, the policy for Medical Plan is only covered insured person age till 61 years. However, me may offer your good self our Juara PA plan which covered for Personal Accident plan. This policy will be covered insured person till age of 76.

Attached for your reference.

Thank you and regards,

Jaydee is right: "these insurance companies make it up as they go along." As for you, Scott, some people have all the luck!  :'(

I think a Personal Accident plan is not the same as getting Medical Insurance.  I had a Personal Accident plan here in Thailand for a while and it was very limited coverage - literally accidents. But is a Personal Accident Plan acceptable for MM2H purposes I wonder?

I 'm not sure what your grief is about, Azka. That last reply from the insurer states specifically that they cannot provide medical insurance because of your age(s) which is all you need to seek exemption from purchasing Malaysian health insurance for your MM2H application.

The fact that the insurer offered you & your wife accident insurance coverage is irrelevant because that is not what Immigration is seeking. Having said that, there is nothing to stop you buying accident insurance if the premiums are attractive - accidents happen to the best of us.

Thank you for the clarification, Megalink. I'll take a printout of the email and try my luck. I think this pretty much wraps up this thread, apart from a final thanks to all for your help.
