Do you still keep your Winter clothes?
« on: December 31, 2009, 06:12:35 PM »
Just a bit of chit-chat, for all those who have moved to the Tropics - have you still got those heavy sweaters, big coat, gloves, scarves, boots?

I have to admit we're almost 5 years in the Tropics and still have some of them.  The boots and shoes look a bit mouldy from time to time and need the odd wipe out.  We were discussing about throwing them out on the move to Malaysia next year but still not sure - it feels like tempting fate somehow.  I can't imagine going anywhere wintry now - though maybe Cameron Highlands, the other highlands gets a little bit chilly?

hi,

Sometimes when the temperature drops to 27 it feels cold. But not enough to get out the heavies. I've dumped mine, but then I've been in the tropics for several years.

I've only kept a heavy bomber-style jacket for arrival in the cold. It was good for China in winter. When I go back to the UK the first stop is Primark.

I keep a hat and jacket purely for aircon.  For example, the interview rooms in HSBC are frozen down to the level that your free coffee ices over.

I could never understand why the air-con is set to near freezing in Malaysia. My glasses steam up when I walk out most offices or bank

Agreed george.

Another favourite situation for this is the Skytrain after rain.  The aircon is going full blast, the water on the floor is making frozen puddles, and any wet clothes are giving you hypothermia.  (Old people normally can't shiver to get warm like the young.)

Ya, in last month's shipment, 4 boxes of winter clothes and to my surprise our down hill ski boots minus the skis; haven't dug in to all the boxes, maybe the cross country ones might be more usefull  ;D (the boxes were packed seven years ago!)

Moved here already one year. I still have my winter clothes ,jackets and boots. I went to Japan in October, just good for me to have those heavy clothes.

The air condition here is damn cold, freezing! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I don't like it!

I'll be keeping a set or 2 of my winter clothing. Are you in sunny humid and hot Malaysia aware that we in most part of UK, me in Nottinghamshire, has been blanketed in snow and ice for nearly 3 weeks now ? Today alone,4 inches fell and settle on the ground. Whatever happened to global warming !

George, today whilst having an afternoon swim, a cloud crossed in front of the sun.  You have no idea how we suffer.

I tried to show an image here, but can't make it work, so here's the url:

It shows UK all white, top to toe.

georgeshooter is somewhere in the middle of all that.  Sympathies, george.

I think you're all being very cruel to George.  Of course he'll have the last laugh in the UK summertime when we're all enjoying the south west monsoon  :'(
