Not the Post Office
« on: December 20, 2009, 07:26:56 PM »
hi,

Also useful if you end up in one of those embarrassingly named condos and really can't bring yourself to tell your friends and family.  I think the worst one I ever saw was in Singapore - a condo called Poshville  ::)

I checked out a Singapore condo named The Trumps.   :-X

Of course, the break wind condo has the last laugh. The condo has a great location, almost opposite the MRT, and units have risen in price despite the name.

PS : This post was in response to the following from papaya :

"It seems to me they're pretty useful if you're going to be changing addresses a couple of times - as in our case, as we'll be renting somewhere first, then into a bought place.  Also useful if you end up in one of those embarrassingly named condos and really can't bring yourself to tell your friends and family. I think the worst one I ever saw was in Singapore - a condo called Poshville."

It was part of the Malaysian Post Office thread which is now split, and this version of SMF 2.0 RC1.2 doesn't allow split posts, just topics.

Could non-post-office posts be moved to another thread?

I am sure if you PM a moderator this could be achieved....no need to post another post to request this action ???

hi,

Members are free to post or PM as they wish. I've always preferred the post route as it puts the request out in the open on the forum. This means that admin, or the GM, doesn't need to leave extra messages.

hi,

There you go, I've split the thread, and all references to strangely-named condos/apartments can be posted here.

BTW, at alloexpat I posted to ask the moderators to split a thread :

Administration/Moderators : Can you please split this topic as it has gone off topic.

 . . . and I'm still waiting.   :o

My2home.info, fast service with a smiley.  8-)

Okay smiley but where are the weird condo names?
 :) :) :) :) :)
I once stayed in a Scottish castle that was so fawlty towers.... well that is another story  :) :) :)

Sorry.... so this is the weird name site. The break wind is winning at the moment but I do look forward to even weirder entries.

Just some of them are not a good idea.  Round the back of Georgetown there's one called I think Scotland Villas and it looks very nice, but  I am English.  I just couldn't bring myself to live there  :-\  Though it could be worse - Wales Villas - yikes.

I know it's not Penang, so off-topic, but the same stupidity might soon infect the place.  There is a major developer in Bkk calling his properties "The Address".

Thus we have, for addresses,
The Address, Sukhumvit Rd,   and
The Address, Chitlom   etc.

Imagine the difficulties giving your address, particularly in a foreign language environment.

"It's The Address, Sukhumvit"
"But what is the address?"
"I just told you."
"Eh"

And writing to multiple addresses abroad, changing your address.
"Hoping this reaches you, but you failed to give us your full address."

hi,

I don't think that this topic is for anything specific to Malaysia so please include names from anywhere. It's the forum equivalent of chit-chatting at the office Christmas Party.   :)

Here's a list of some condo monickers from Singapore which just shows the effort that is needed in naming a name.

The Condominium Development : run-of-the-mill developer.
Landed Housing Development : same developer.
AA Centre : for alchies or motorists, or both.
Grand Duchess at St. Patricks : aristocracy plus a saint.
Illuminaire on Devonshire : mega-lux.
Airstream : for jetsetters.
Iridium : glow flourescent orange in the dark.
The Monarchy Apartments : every owner a king of the castle.
Naturalis : nudists.
Palisades : fence-sitters.
Presidio : a fortified base.
Prospero Ville : fans of The Tempest.
Proximo : move in next month.
Radiance at Bukit Timah : some folks just glow.
Reflections at Keppel Bay : and some folks just reflect.
Rhapsody on Mount Elisabeth : for orchestrians, or the ecstatic.
The Mint Residences : a saucy little place.
Versilia on Haig : or on Johnny Walker, or on Jack Daniels.

That's quite funny (unless you live there).  Reminds me of something one of our friends told us.  I really don't know if this is true - maybe someone from KL can confirm - but we were told that there's some pubs in KL called "The Office".  So you get a call on your mobile...

"Where are you darling?  Dinner's on the table"
"I'm at The Office dear"  ;D
