Long term car rental
« on: May 20, 2009, 05:42:10 AM »
Hi
does anyone have any experience with long term (and therefore hopefully cheaper) car rentals. I talking in the say one to three month category. KL or Penang is preferred but if someone knows of a fanatstic service somewhere else I'm very interested. The usual car rental firms are not crash hot in this area.
Thanks  :)

Try the Mayflower Office at KLIA.  Make sure you speak to Sharman.  I rented from them for 3 months last year at 2600RM  a month all in.   I had a Vios for 1 month and then a Sentra for 2 months.  Speaking to Mayflower reservations directly was of no use in getting a discount but when I called the KLIA office and spoke to Sharman he was prepared to do a deal.

The cars were always in good condition too

Hi,
Somebody posted on this site some time ago that if you talk to any Indian money changer they will have a car to you in minutes. I also seem to remember that the amount was around half of the price Sag quotes. I guess you would have to do your checking very carefully but the report was very positive and the car reported to be late model and good condition. In Penang we were even offered car hire by the real estate guy...everybody seems to know somebody who is hiring their car out.
Sorry , beyond that I can't remember who posted but if they read this they may pass on the information again.
Loopi.

For penang you could try either
http://www.magicgreen.com.my/rentalrates.html
or
http://www.labelle.net.my/rentalpromo.htm
Both my neighbor and I rent wile we are waiting for our own car with the lather and we are both satisfied with their service. The price I pay is less than stated on the website, there is room for some negotiation. Never had to give them any deposit or credit card details just pay cash for every month we have the car.
Tomorrow we give it back because we can pick up our own car.  :D

regards, Paul

Thanks guys
those deals look great and I will certainly follow up next time I am in Penang. I must say I love the idea of the Indian money changer. It's like the old song... you can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant!!
Take care

Rental car in Penang
« Reply #5 on: August 16, 2010, 04:39:06 PM »
I swear I saw a thread which began with car rental Penang and it listed some recommendations for some car rental companies but I can't find it now.

If you have a car rental recommendation, can I have it please?  Alternatively a link to the original thread?

Thanks

Hi,
Somebody posted on this site some time ago that if you talk to any Indian money changer they will have a car to you in minutes.

I have used this Indian Money Changer at Batu Ferringhi several times ( I hope the green A remains)

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=5.475634,100.252492&daddr=Batu+Ferringhi,+11100+Batu+Feringgi,+Penang,+Malaysia&hl=en&geocode=%3BCaUlCZV1wi39FStqUwAdkLH5BSnxqsTdB-hKMDGiwxLGx-otvQ&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=19&sll=5.475132,100.252596&sspn=0.002245,0.003484&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=19

Quite a bit cheaper than the others, or at least a car  model or 2 up for the same price as the big names (Wira for a saga or Kancil price and delivered to Georgetown for us)
