Martha

How do you get free transfers? I have always been charged GBP10 to transfer to my local HSBC account...although my last transfer was 3 months ago. When I transferred money to an account in another bank the charge was GBP27.

Hi BillJay,

As far as I know transfers from countries Abroad is foc on the assumption that you are transferring Sterling (or whatever foreign currency) from Country A to Country B.
However if you are transferring from one country in one currency to another country in another currency then charges will be applicable.

I am sure the 'enlightened' will appraise us further!!!!!

Hi Martha,

When I have sent money from the UK to Malaysia, I have just said to transfer x Pounds Sterling. It gets converted on arrival in Malaysia - often the same day.

I have checked the FirstDirect (part of HSBC) website and it shows :

Overseas payments
Worldwide and Euro priority payments    £25
EU Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) payments    £9
HSBC group transfers    £10

I haven't effected a transfer recently so these charges may be new!! :(

You need to set up a sterling account with HSBC Sdn Bhd, and then transfer sterling to that account. that puts you in control of when to convert it!

To those with CIMB accounts - how long does it normally take to get a cheque book?

hi,

I am sure the 'enlightened' will appraise us further!!!!!

There's an old saying, "the enlightened don't use 5 watt bulbs."  :-\  Well it's not all that old, like pre-Edison.

CIMB takes 1 week for cheque books, in the experience of a colleague who recently opened a CIMB account and who has just sms'd me. I guess branches vary so best to +/- a few days.
