Second-Hand Books in Penang
« on: December 08, 2009, 11:30:10 AM »
hi,

The recent posts on "shipping books to Malaysia" made me think of the second-hand bookstalls (shops?) that were on the first floor above the Penang central wet market. I've forgotten the street, it's the one leading from Comtar to the Cititel Hotel, and the top end of Chulia Street.

Are they still there?

Yes still there it's called the Chowrasta market to be found on Penang Road:

There are also secondhand bookshops on and around Chulia street.
Here in our condo we are blessed with a library, it's like a big book swap. Any new book is put in after reading.
We also exchange with people we know. I am now reading the first book of the Stieg Larsson trilogy, a real page turner.

For those that live around T Bungah / T Tokong and I know a lot of you do, there's a new bookstore opened in Island Plaza with both new and secondhand books.  It looks rather interesting.  I could spend all day in a bookstore - look forward to checking this one out.  There's a website here.
