Submission to Approval on line to Approval Letter
« on: October 21, 2009, 04:51:29 PM »
Not heard anything from Agent yet but the online Application Status on MoTour website has kicked in with a "Approved on FD".  Guess that's it then?

Timing of submission date to approval on line was 6 weeks.  (A bit slower than Davita's)

Looking at another posting on here, it seems that the official letter is sent out a little after the online approval?

We finally put our application in this Monday. We were told about 6 weeks and that they have been swamped with applications, many from other parts of Asia.

hi,

Well done, sazz.

The Motour site has charts that give numbers of applicants. It didn't get updated for 2 or 3 months and only now has it got as far as July.

In April there was a record number of 278, in May 189, June 113, and July 131. The average for the past couple of years has been about 120 per month.

Congrats papaya,
We have delayed our departure from Vancouver due to no standby seats available. Trying again today.
This means we will not get to KL until January as we will stay in Jakarta and complete the 60 day visa we have already purchased.
When do you plan to pick up your MM2H visa..I seem to remember you were DIY so I'm interested in how the next stage goes as I'm also DIY from now on.
I'm particularly interested on how one establishes a bank account in KL and transfers the FD.
I'm planning on opening an account in HSBC as I have a Premier account here in Canada but I'm not confident it will be as smooth as the person here assures me.

 Hi davita
I was amazed to see that Canada still has "stand by" ticketing. The Oz model got rid of that years ago. As a general rule the earlier the booking the cheaper but if I want to fly to Malaysia say next week I can get a fare that is only $100 above what is generally the cheapest fare.
Have a great day  :)

Hi donohue,

I still get discount privilege on open tickets from the airline I used to fly for and try to travel business on these long flights (YVR-HKG), but only get to travel when seats are available.

Recently those flights are overbooked and I got dumped. Today was my 5th attempt and it again failed, even for economy seating.

For the cost of taxis to/from the airport so far I could have bought a full fare ticket.

 Good Luck Davita
I'm sure it will be well worth the wait.
At least the fares within Malaysia are dirt cheap. KL- Penang 70 MYR inlculing taxes, baggage  et al on Malaysian

Yup...looking forward to those cheap fares.
It cost me more than that in gas when I drove Penang-Singapore around 1959/60 in a Riley 1.5 litre Pathfinder.

Congratulations, papaya!!

Thank you.  It's a nice feeling - well, apart from that head-thumping hangover.  :-\

Not sure.  We haven't had the official letter yet and nothing from Yvonne yet.  I just saw the Approval on the government website.  We'd already booked a trip to Penang for November so will be back down again in just over 2 weeks time.  Hope to at least have a scanned copy of the letter and will just see "what is possible" on that trip.  Will see if we can open some bank accounts with the scanned letter  ;)  Of course we don't have a long journey like you.  So easy for us to just pop down as the flights are cheap.

I imagine we'll probably do some kind of 3-way or 4-way trip to KL/Penang in Jan or Feb, certainly before CNY.  Early days yet as we have a LOT of sorting out/fiddling at the Phuket end.

Wow that's great if the flights KL to Penang are only 70 MYR.

For Davita primarily:

The server went down on here and we've lost a few postings including yours Davita, Stuurman's and mine.  I think you mentioned something about me knowing what I was doing and you'd be following me.  Ah, don't be fooled - I'm just following everyone else.

We got the official approval letter yesterday (scanned copy from Yvonne) and we shall try waving that about to open some bank accounts in Penang in a couple of weeks time.

Stuurman mentioned (also lost posting I think) that he opened bank account, got medical insurance and bought a car - all on the scanned copy.

Bank account insurance we got on the scanned copy. Not sure about the car purchase on second thoughts, I think we used a certified copy for that.
