For Davita primarily:

The server went down on here and we've lost a few postings including yours Davita, Stuurman's and mine.  I think you mentioned something about me knowing what I was doing and you'd be following me.  Ah, don't be fooled - I'm just following everyone else.

We got the official approval letter yesterday (scanned copy from Yvonne) and we shall try waving that about to open some bank accounts in Penang in a couple of weeks time.

Thanks papaya...I think I read your post prior to the crash.
I just wanted to engage with you and Mr. P on our mutual objectivity. As you said.... you are surely closer to the action than me.
We are still in Vancouver, hopefully leaving tomorrow, as the weather here has changed...it is time to leave! I only need 2 seats.

My next concern is being able to open an account in KL, and transfer the FD in a reasonable time frame. I am assured by the HSBC here in Canada that this will be seamless...suffice to say, I'm less than confident...but we'll see.

My understanding is that I will receive the original MM2H document from Joy-Stay when I arrive in KL and will have that document in hand when I open the bank account, transfer the FD and get the affidavit from HSBC.
I understand that I simultaneously need to have a medical and medical insurance prior to arriving at the MM2H office to have the visa chopped into our passport.

Stuurman mentioned (also lost posting I think) that he opened bank account, got medical insurance and bought a car - all on the scanned copy.

Hi Davita

Maybe I can reassure you. Our bank accounts were opened on the spot at the Penang HSBC office. We got our internet banking tool, account numbers etc. within an hour. After that we transferred the funds from our Dutch account into the new HSBC account. We actually did that on a computer at the HSBC office :) 48 hours later after all funds had arrived we went back to the HSBC office to set up our FD's. So within 3 working days we got everything sorted out.

Thank you Paul
That is re-assuring...Perhaps I'm little anal on my issue with the bank. So thanks for your help.

David
