De facto partners, recent marriage, or marriage after approval?
« on: October 15, 2009, 07:03:11 PM »
1. Can a De facto partner be approved as part of MM2h? (sounds like not)
2. Do they check for how recently someone got married, or they don't care?
3. If I apply and get approved by myself as an individual, is there any way to "upgrade" myself to couple if we get married later and can meet the requirements then?

I think you can find the answer to item 3 on this thread (and think it is Yes)

http://www.my2home.info/index.php/topic,639.0.html

I'm a relative newbie on here so I'm no expert but we (husband and I) have applied for MM2H (in husband's name) and can confirm that they do require to see a certified copy of your marriage document.  That might answer your item 2?

I guess some MM2H experts will post some comments for you shortly?  Very quiet on the board at the moment.  Where's everyone?  You're not all out enjoying the glorious weather are you?  You know you'd much rather be stuck indoors faffing about on the computer wouldn't you?  ;)

I am no expert by any means but I think you have to be married to get your partner approved. If you want to be really sure why don't you sent an email to Cindy Lim at http://www.mm2h.gov.my. She is very promt in replying. An other very good source of information is Yvonne at http://www.joy-stay.com
Please Pm me if you need direct email addresses because I don't want to post them on an open forum.

@Papaya, just back from Bali and didn't post much for a while because of a busy period with work and moving. Things are getting more quit now and I will try  to get more involved again :)
The weather is great recently your right so less time behind the computer and more in the pool!

I doubt very much if partner will be accepted hence marriage certificate requirement. Marriage is marriage to them, does not matter about the length. Correct me if I'm wrong

hi,

I haven't come across any posts about this on this site or alloexpat. Stuurman's advice to email Cindy Lim is the best way to go. Please post any reply so we all know.

When the 10-year visa came out I enquired about "upgrading" from my current 5-year one. At that time those on the 5-year visa had to stay on 5-years. It has since changed on renewal.

The answer was "no" however I could cancel the present visa and re-apply and then get the new terms. At the time it re-affirmed the stance that MoTour has taken. The conditions that apply when your visa is granted are those that apply all the time. So I guess getting your wife's name added-in later would be going against this stance as it would mean changing the terms and conditions (from individual to joint).

The good news is that the MM2H program does seem to have a procedure for allowing spouses to apply as dependants later on! According to the helpful Cindy, once the correct paperwork is in (letters from both parties, marriage certificate, etc) it can even take as little as 7 days.
