10M MM2H

hi,

IMO, Malaysia Today is a left of something and right of something else site.

This site isn't political. However here's an article applying the MM2H moniker to other issues. Legit for this site, I dunno. But as an observation it's interesting.

12 Sept 2010 : Dear Tony NO HOLDS BARRED
". . . anyway, what I really wanted to write to you about is your comment that you follow Malaysia Today almost daily and that your reason for doing so is because you will soon be retiring and you are thinking about making Malaysia your retirement home.

I take it you have heard of the ‘Malaysia My Second Home’ programme? Actually more than ten million Malaysians are on this programme, so to speak. Basically, the Chinese, Indians and ‘others’ are regarded as pendatang or immigrants even though almost all of them were born in Malaysia. This sort of makes Malaysia ‘my second home’ for these ‘pendatang’."

If this is true, I don't mind being regarded as pendatang or immigrants and placed under the Malaysia My Second Home programme.  Just give me my duty free car purchase entitlement.   O0

When I read this article in Malaysia Today, I have the same thoughts as Scott to post it here.  But I was afraid that impending applicants will cry foul when these 10 million people are exempted from the Fixed Deposits requirement and the RM 10,000 monthly income whereas the foreigners who have yet to set foot here in Malaysia have to comply.  >:(

hi,

As the 10M were born in the country they are Malaysian citizens, and they are liable for tax. As a my2homer I'm a long-term tourist provided I keep the FD in a bank, collect the interest and I don't pay tax. A great deal, and that's why I applied for it so I'm not crying foul over anything.

I hope the 1 Malaysia concept is adopted by all, with fair shares all round, loads of handshakes, wealth distribution, equal opportunities, and an example to the world (Jeez, it needs one) of a peaceful, harmonious, easy-going, sharing (Ok, I know, nothing is gonna solve greed) population that welcomes outsiders. I'd also like McDonalds to give free vegetarian burgers with every bag of chips bought.    ::)

IMO, one problem with Malaysia Today is that in it's vitriol it forgets any balance and becomes diatribe, more of a reflection of what it's against than what it is for, if it's for anything. Still, it's good for a read.
