If you land in KL & stay for a day or two you can arrange that with KL branch of AIG, before moving on to Ipoh.

HI Shirley,

I note your comments about the medical insurance. It really depends if you just want the piece of paper to get the MM2H or you "really" want health insurance. If it is the former just say nothing about any pre-existing conditions. OK it negates the policy but if you look closely the cover is pretty meagre anyway.

Cheers

Brian

Thanks Brian,

It's a good point but you don't really need medical insurance to get the visa (if you have been rejected). I am not sure how you prove that though.

I do plan to get medical insurance if at all possible, it's just that the company I tried first said "NO".

Hi Bob,

I thought that medical insurance was a "must". I have the approval letter in front of me here and point 3.5 clearly states Health Insurance Required.

Just had my "medical" The doctor took it quite seriously - BP check, height and weight, lung function test, stomach and chest investigation. A bit suprised as I thought it would just be a rubber stamping job. Anyway I am A1 !!??.  By the way he only charged RM20. This may be because we use him as our GP.

Cheers

Brian

Strangely enough if you get refused for Health Insurance and can provide a letter to that effect then the requirement will be waived.

That is of course unless things have changed.

Hi Shirley,

You will need medical insurance unless you have been declined by an insurance company on grounds of age or pre-existing condition.

If you have been declined then so long as dont have some contagious disease the requirement may be waived.

Please do check the latest information with motour on this one.

hi, Shirley,

The MoTour site has always been very consistent on the requirement for medical insurance.

I've just checked the MoTour site, and the alloexpat site. No change.

I've also just contacted an active agent, and there are no changes to the requirement.

So, Shirley, you'll need to get the insurance. Keep in touch and let us all know how it's going.

regards, Scott

Hi Scott,

Unfortunately the motour website is down at present so I cant check but as far as I know a waiver can be given if insurance cover has been rejected on grounds of age. This is from the Aubella site:

"However, for elderly applicants who were rejected by the insurance company because of age factor, we are able to ask for a waiver for the insurance requirement. (New update 17 March 2007) "

I am less certain about rejection on other grounds such as a pre-existing medical condition but I know this has been quoted by some agents.

The problem is that it is always possible to get insurance but at what cost. I have just been quoted 6 health plans ranging from £3500 to £5900 pa for myself and my wife. Seems like scary stuff especially as I am in pretty good nic at the moment.

I'll contact my agent to see what he says, unfortunately they act as a broker as well so that clouds the issue a bit.
