Finally Approved
« on: August 13, 2009, 10:04:10 PM »
Firstly a Big Thank You for all those who have helped us our Application!!

Since Direct Applications was reinstated, there may not be many forum members who have gone down this route.  We must have been about the first batch. Perhaps our story is useful and will encourage those thinking the DP route.

We were not sure which qualifying issue to choose so we just sent in absolutely everything:- the usual certified copies of passport pages plus 6 months original Std Life Pension remittance letters (the monthly payments was under the RM10k), letter from our Personal Banker detailing 6 months statements, certified copies of 3 UK properties and  certified copy of Sale & Purchase Agreement and bills of a recently purchased house in KL exceeding RM1m.  The Application was posted to PWTC in February 2009.

We were able to track it on MM2H's website most of the time.

Received Approval Letter in April 2009.   However, the content of the letter did not appear to have taken into account new rule changes (between Feb - April).  It still demanded RM150K (which wasn't correct). We wrote to query in May 2009. We received a reply in the form of another Approval Letter dated July 2009. Under point 2.2 it says " A minimum balance of FD of RM60k must be maintained from the second year onwards and throughout the duration of participation...including applying for extension".  So one surmise that an original amount of FD required exceeding RM60k to start with.

Not so, because on page 2, " The pass will then be issued upon full settlement of the fees and documents below:
point 3.2: Fixed Deposit Certificate for MM2H     RM60,000
point 3.3: Letter from Bank to confirm said above said Deposit made
point 3.4  Security Bond        RM1,500
The other points were the usual Medical Report and Health Insurance requirements.

SO, we suppose it is OK to FD RM60K in the first instance.  Scott, Fizzy* if you think not, we would value your opinions!

We have now received a shipping Quote for a 40ft container from Palshipping. Have also emailed CrownAce for a Quote but no reply to date. Looking to load mid Sep & to arrive in KL/Port Klang late Oct.

hi, nks900,

And congratulations. That's good news.

As you have bought a property at RM1M or above you are not subject to the RM10,000 offshore income.

On the FD for over 50's, here's the latest from the mm2h.gov.my website :

Quote
Approved participants who have purchased and owned property which were bought at RM1 million and above in Malaysia may comply with the basic fixed deposit requirement of RM 100,000, on condition that the property has been fully paid and ownership documents such as grant and land title have already been issued. This amount may not be withdrawn until the participant decides to terminate his participation in MM2H programme.

I think that your application and approval came through as the changes to the required residual FD were filtering through the system.

I'd agreed with you and also suppose that you go by the conditions set-out in the Letter of Approval concerning what you need to get the pass : point 3.2 FD of RM60,000. After all, that's what it says in B&W and that's what you will be showing to Immigration.

BTW : My own Renewal Letter of Approval from a couple of months ago also stated in clause 1.2 various withdrawal amounts (whichever is relevant) in what seemed like a catch-all paragraph. Page 2 gave the details and fees specifically applicable to me. I think that that's the way it's done.

Well done nks900
Sorry I cannot help on the FD, as luckily we didn't need to go that route.

See you soon

The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

Hi All,    Just to round up the story....

Before departing for KL in October we opened a HSBC Premier Account, at the same time also established an account in PJ. Transfered dosh over; no problems.

Bought (AIA) medical insurance for myself, got the medical form rubber-stamped and signed whilst undergoing the "medical" at the clinic.  Got rejection letter for hubby from AIA as they won't insure over 60s.  Got the Security Bond form done (thanks Scott for that tip about the Hasil stamp and rubber-stamping at the income tax office). Placed the RM60K in a HSBC FD.

Took everything with us to PWTC, Dato Onn building. The corridors and passage-ways looked dated and worn but the actual MM2H Centre at the 4th floor is plush and the staff very efficient.  Took number, queue, hand in paperwork and passports.
* Paid the RM1500 Security Bond; got a receipt.
* Paid 3 months worth of Visa charges each. Balance to put applied when hubby renew passport.

Waited another half hour. Passports returned to us with the Visas all done!

BTW, there was a couple there from the Maldives, being accompanied by their Agent.  We were informed that they paid an Agent's Fee of RM10,000. But of course, personal collection at KLIA by the Agent  and any subsequent trips to PWTC for further Visas included!

We returned to UK in December:-  Xmas, New Year, Birthdays etc etc... Lots of snow, freezing temperature, slipping on ice...  February I must attend Jury Service, so won't be flying back to KL until mid March at the earliest.

Just thought I would like to post that we got our MM2H visa's yesterday. We used the Joy-Stay semi DIY to get the conditional approval.
We arrived from Jakarta on Monday and checked into the Nikko Hotel around 4pm.
Next morning went to HSBC to open a Premium Account. We have Premium in other countries but wanted to switch the Principle account to the KL Branch as they accept the MM2H MR 150,000 towards the MR 200,000 requirement to maintain a Global Premium Account. This took some 4 hours to open, transfer from our Canada account and complete the written letter and FD for the MM2H.

As time was passing we were told by the bank that we could get a medical across the street in a clinic. This proved to be a disaster as the doctor said that we needed all sorts of tests before signing the MM2H downloaded Medical Forms.
I called Yvonne and she advised that not all clinics understand the MM2H requirements but her clients normally went to a clinic near her office.
We cancelled the medical we were undergoing and took a taxi to Sri Petaling where Joy-Stay gave us our original forms and indicated the clinic we should have used. 20 mins later we had our medical docs duly signed (MR30 each).

Our Medical Insurance also proved problematic...the broker tried his best but could not get a cover note in any short time scale and the price went up and up.

Next morning we went to the MM2H office in Putra World Trade Centre. They accepted evrything including our World-wide Medical Travel Insurance issued in Canaada. Frankly, it appeared to me they were only really interested to see the FD.
We still waited for around 3 hours as they close for lunch 1-2 pm so we also went downstairs to a coffee shop.

By 3pm we were celebrating our new Visa.

In hindsight I wish we had gone from the airport to see Yvonne and collect the original document and have our medical done there. Sri Petaling is on the way from the airport to downtown.
Unless the Medical Insurance is of concern, use whatever is available...we did not really want insurance as we do not yet plan to live in Malaysia but this is a personal matter.

Fire any questions my way and I'll try to answer.

David

Sadly the 'G' hotel is fully booked so we will go by NICE coach from KL to the Evergreen Laurel in Gurney Drive, Penang tomorrow. If they don't have a suitable cocktail bar??? I believe it is a short walk to the 'G'but maybe a staggering long walk back.

The cocktail bar at the Evergreen is much better than the cold sterile atmosphere of the "G".

Thanks Steve...That is good news...I'm again feeing lucky.
We only reserved for 2 days and will stay in Penang for at least a week.
So, we will look around for another hotel after we get there but if the Evergreen cocktail bar is good...that may be IT.

hi, davita,

Congrats on the visa collection, that's great news.

. . . as time was passing we were told by the bank that we could get a medical across the street in a clinic. This proved to be a disaster as the doctor said that we needed all sorts of tests before signing the MM2H downloaded Medical Forms.

I called Yvonne and she advised that not all clinics understand the MM2H requirements but her clients normally went to a clinic near her office.

Frankly, it appeared to me they were only really interested to see the FD.

Clinics get confused between the RM30 (or thereabouts) for checking that you're alive and simply signing the mm2h medical form, and the RM150 charge for the medical (which needs blood tests) as required for foreign workers as part of immigration requirements.

It was a good move to cancel the first medical.

It's great that your worldwide travel medical insurance was accepted. And I think that you're right, as long as the FD is in order everything else is more of a formality. Why wouldn't travel medical insurance from Canada that applies in Malaysia be Ok. Thanks for sharing this as it will be very useful to other members.
