Would you/Do you travel on Friday the 13th?
« on: July 25, 2009, 01:37:59 PM »
We weren't thinking of booking next Penang trip just yet but I just thought I'd have a leetle look on Firefly's website and Phuket to Penang RM 1 for Friday 13th Nov  :D  We're tempted.  Good airline though the turbulence was kind of interesting on the way back  :'(

The building # (we bought of plan) for our house in Amsterdam was 13. Now we bought an apartment on the 13th floor, they call it 12A here  ;D. Maybe 13 is our lucky number. I have no problem flying on Friday the 13th.
But are you sure you can stay away that long  ;)

hi,

If you're doing a night-time trip on an express coach then every day is spooky, not just the 13th.  ~47~

I was born on the 13th, possibly a Friday. Never been lucky. The only time I won anything on a lottery was a box of ladies cosmetics. I was 16 at the time and didnt have a girlfriend.

Oh! I also won a bottle of dodgy wine at PSC. Maybe my luck is changing, I'll have to take up the firefly offer :D

Yap, bought a unit on the 4th floor in Pg, it's 3A on the lift but the little tag on the top of the front door stated it's 4th floor! We picked that because it has a 500sq ft garden and a 400 sq ft side yard under the Strata Title  8-)

I take it that's a roof garden BB?  I'm trying to imagine a 500 sq ft garden sticking out the side of a condo and struggling with the concept.

I suppose technically we had a unit on the 4th floor in Singapore.  It was actually level 5 but they start ground floor as level 1 in Singapore  :-\  That had an empty roof garden.  We always said we'd do it up when we got Singapore PR but, as that never materialized, nor did the garden.

Yes, Papaya it's a roof garden as there are 3 levels of Parking under and the unit sits on top of the 3rd fl parking. It's unique as we haven't seen any prop like that with garden and side yard included in the Strata Title. But,now sold it and moved to a 'landed' property. The new owner told us they're putting it up for rental at least for the first 2 yrs until they can move over from their other unit in Bayan Lepas.

Hope to be able to meet up in your next trip to this wonderful island  ;D

hi,

For those not too familiar, the number 4 is unlucky to some Chinese. It's because the word "four" in Hokien, Cantonese and Mandarin sounds the same as "die."

The number 8 isn't "double die." It's a very lucky number because it sounds close to the phrase for  "strike lottery/wealth."

Units on the 8th floor can command a higher price. I'm surprised that condo towers don't have several 8th floors.

Continuing the thread...
Here in Vancouver we have a huge immigration of Hokkian and Cantonese speaking Chinese. They generally migrate to an area near the airport called 'Richmond'. I'm told it is because they associate that with being a richman...presumably it works because they are now migrating to an area called 'Coquitlam'.
I'm also considering that nuance.

I heard lots of HK movie stars have properties in Coquitlam...must be good 'Fung Shui' even the basement hydroponic 'grass' grow very well in some of the huge houses from what I read in the papers ;D

Here in Pg or anywhere in M'sia, a house at the top of a T-intersection with the road facing the house directly is taboo! My friends bought the 2 semi-Ds at reduced price as they don't believe such tales. I think it's so strategic as their houses look right out to the sea without any obstructions...I'd say it's a Million Dollar view! :)
