Alternative Rapid Penang routes for Georgetown celebrations

PENANG, July 23 – In conjunction with the first anniversary celebration of Georgetown’s listing as a Unesco World Heritage Site this Saturday, 14 Rapid Penang routes will be affected due to several road closures.

Rapid Penang Sdn Bhd creative communication assistant manager Yap Lee Ying said the bus company would use alternative routes on that day.

“Due to the road closures from 5pm to midnight on Saturday, Rapid Penang will be using several alternative routes,” he said in a statement here today.

For Corridor 1 and 2, the affected routes are 101 (Weld Quay–Teluk Bahang), 104 (Weld Quay–Tanjung Bungah through Jalan Burma–Jalan Gajah) and 201 (Weld Quay–Air Itam town through Tingkat Paya Terubong).

Other affected routes are 202 (Weld Quay–Paya Terubong through Farlim), 203 (Weld Quay–Air Itam through Farlim), 206 (Weld Quay–Air Itam town passing Tesco) and route 11 (Weld Quay–Jalan Tan Sri Teh Ewe Lim through Jalan Perak).

These routes starting from the Komtar Bus Terminal will be detoured to Jalan Burma–Jalan Transfer–Jalan Sri Bahari–Lebuh Chulia-Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling–Lebuh Farquhar–Lebuh Light–Jalan Pengkalan Weld–Weld Quay.

For Corridor 3 dan 4, the routes affected are 301 (Weld Quay–Relau through Jalan Sungai Dua–Bayan Baru), 302 (Weld Quay–Batu Maung through Jalan Bukit Gambir–Jalan Dato’ Ismail Hashim–Permatang Damar Laut) and 303 (Weld Quay–Bayan Baru (Bukit Gedung) through Jalan C.Y. Choy–Taman Melati).

The road closures will also affect route 401 (Weld Quay–Balik Pulau through Bayan Baru), 401A (Weld Quay–Bayan Lepas International Airport) and 401E (Weld Quay–Balik Pulau through Queensbay).

From the Komtar Bus Terminal (Lebuh Lintang), these routes will be detoured to Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong–Lebuh Carnovan–Jalan Kampung Kolam–Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling–Lebuh Farquhar–Lebuh Light–Jalan Pengkalan Weld–Weld Quay.

Route 307 (Weld Quay–Batu Maung through Bayan Baru) from the Komtar Bus Terminal (Lebuh Lintang), will be detoured to Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong straight to Jalan Pengkalan Weld–Pesara King Edward–Weld Quay.

However, route 204 (Weld Quay–Air Itam town through Jalan Padang Tembak –Jalan Stesen Bukit), 103 (Weld Quay–Tanjung Bungah through Jalan Kelawei) will not be affected.

Yap said all routes would resume normal operations the following day.

This site is interesting as it has got not only pictures of some colonial houses in Penang but also brief history of each building.
