Renewal In Penang (Immig Office Mainland side)
« on: July 16, 2009, 01:21:44 PM »
Today we drove there and arrived 8.30am at the front door of the building.
Walked around to the right side of the building and it's the 2nd entrance. Up the stairs on the right, then make a U-turn on the 1st floor, through a door and waalah the right dept. :)
8.35am at Window #1, gave the lady all our documents. She thought we needed the form IM.55, but when I showed her what we had, she smiled and went through the list and gave us 2 numbers and asked us to wait until we see the numbers on the LED screen. We were the 5th in line. Actually quite a small crowd compared to the last couple of times we were there for Extension. Could be the reduction of foreign workers and maids that contributed to the handful of us applying for visas.
8.45am our numbers showed up for Window#6. The officer went through the pile and asked us to wait.
8.55am She (same officer) called our names to same Window. She returned our old and new passports, the 'ticked' list of documents we placed on the top of the pile, gave us an acknowledgment letter stating process will take 14 working days, another officer's name, tel and extension # (responsible for MM2H Renewal application) - that we call by the 14th working day, asked us for our contact # in case they needed to call us. When we call we will find out the amount for the visa and if our total is above RM400 we'll need to get a bank draft. This must be some thing new  :-\ because we've always paid cash before when we did our Extensions.
9am we were out of the building :)

Will continue in 14 working days........

Regards,
BB

PS: why are the 2 words 'top' and 'MM2H' blue when I didn't highlight them?  :-\

The system is tracking abbreviations is working a bit to hard so it thinks top is an abbreviation.
If you hoover over the blue words with your mouse you get the whole phrase.

hi,

Many thanks BB for the renewal so far. And that's a good point about the word "top", and thanks Stuurman for the explanation.

The background is that I added a glossary a few weeks ago. It's on the main panel next to Logout.

For some abbreviations, the dumb software can't distinguish between TOP (glossary for Temporary Occupation Permit) and top (word meaning opposite of bottom).

I've tried fixing it several times but can't. I've tried upper case, lower case and ended up a basket case.   ~2funny

I think that, on balance, the glossary is a plus especially for those not too familiar with some technical English terms, Latin bits and bobs, and/or acronyms. Anomalies may occur.

PS : The normally 3amp bulb that lights up my brain just went nova. As I'm mainly the guy using the phrase Temporary Occupation Permit, I've changed the glossary definition to TOccP.  I also didn't much like top being TOP and now it's not.

hi,

When I received my first mm2h visa at Damansara in 2004 I had to pay by Banker's Draft. It was RM90 x 5-years = RM450.

This needs another thread for Putrajaya payments. I've started "Paying for the Visa" at :

Scott, I think it is only an 'Administrator' option as I cannot see a 'Glossary' next to logout on my screen. 'Members' appears next to 'logout' on the 'Global Moderator' version.

hi,

Yep, you're right FCS. So, if any members have any abbreviations etc. that they want added to the glossary please post, for consideration, in the new glossary topic.

14 days later:

Wed morning: telephoned the officer, she said our Renewal was approved for 10 years. I asked about the amount we needed to pay, she said RM900 each (bank draft). I told her my passport will expire in June 2011 and my hubby's in June 2012. She put me on hold and then came back and said about Rm300 and I can pay cash or bank draft.
Arrived at the Pg Immig Dept (mainland) Wed about 3pm. It was a full house unlike 3 wks ago! Went to Window No.1 to hand in the acknowledgment letter. Was asked to wait, no number was given.
20 mins later a male officer called us to another window. He said he could only issue me a one year visa (Sept 2010) because of my passport exp date. But we explained if I get only one yr then I'll need to get a new passport 9 mths before it expires and our Canadian Consulate would not be too happy to do that as it happened the last time with my hubby's. He was very nice and stamped the visas till May 2011.
We waited for the new visa page to be fixed to our passports and 15 mins later we were called to the last window to pay RM360 and collected our passports. We were given 1 yr 8 mths visa, but we paid for 2 yr visa.
So we'll see when April 2011 comes.

Altogether about 45 mins and we're out of the building at 3.45pm

hi, BB,

Many thanks for the latest, and it's great being approved for 10 years, isn't it.

It also shows that if you've got a problem, then if you ask for a bit of help to get it sorted, it often is.

Yes this happens...when passports and visa dates do not coincide, which is virtually always!!.....but is is not a lot extra in the scheme of thing :-\

Yes, Fizzy we're very happy with the extra 8 mths  ;D
When I get to KL again I'll check out at the Canadian Consulate to see if I can get a so called 'extension' for a year on my passport so the expiry dates will be closer to hubby's...that would be very helpful then.

Definitely, Scott the Immig Officers (at least from what I observe in Penang) are a totally different new breed nowadays. They are very helpful with every one.
I'm so glad we can get our visas done here than traveling all the way to KL each time.

I also noticed the 'Stamping' is different from the old ones.
Old Condition: Permitted to enter and remain in West Malaysia and Sabah until ...D/M/Y
New Condition: Pass extended on the condition that the holder does not remain in West Malaysia and Sabah after  D/M/Yr. Any form of employment is strictly prohibited - Malaysia My Second Home.

No mention of the year 2019?

Yes that would make sense. I know from JR that the American Embassy offers page extensions, but I didn't know that 1 year extensions were possible.
That would be good if it is possible...please post back on your findings.

It makes a lot of sense if all family members passport validity more or less coincide! f.doh

From the website:
http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/malaysia-malaisie/consular_services_consulaires/passport_services_passeport.aspx?lang=eng#fees
No   Type of Service       CAD $   RM
1   24 page passport      100     290.00
2   48 page passport      105           305.00
3   Statutory Declaration   50   145.00
4   Extension                12     35.00
5   Temporary Passport      70   203.00
(To collect reg.ppt in Canada)10   29.00

There's the 24 and 48 pages passports and mine is the 48 pages one. I hope it doesn't mean 'extension' of pages! :( If it does I'm not sure if I can get a temporary passport for the one year.
I'll find out when in KL and will update the findings :)

hi,

The "Letter of Renewal Approval" is dated (dd/mm/yy). For those not familiar, the letter states :

From my Letter
Quote
Application for Renewal of Social Visit Pass Under "Malaysia My Second Home Programme" (MM2H)
With regards to the above I am pleased to inform that your application for Social Visit Pass under the "Malaysia My Second Home Programme" has been approved for a period of another TEN (10) years subject to the following terms and conditions:

The Renewal Approval Letter then states conditions about employment, FD and not being a threat to the security of the country. It's pretty much the same as the original Letter of Approval.

The thing to note here is the importance of keeping these letters, and keeping them in a safe place. It goes along with keeping the FD intact.

Hmmmm, I suspect it does mean 'page extension', as opposed to 'time extension', as that is not listed as a specific item.

Anyway will be interested to know when you find out.

Good luck. f.thumb
