Replacement of MM2H visa
« on: August 10, 2009, 04:22:32 PM »
What to do when your passport got stolen and consequently your MM2H visa?
I happened to me in July 2009.

I emailed MM2H centre (Cindy Lim) and she advised to have my MM2H visa transferred to new passport in Putrajaya, the original place of issue. She was not sure the local Immigration Department in Penang could do it. She adviced to just give it a try.

So I got a new passport and went to Seberang Jaya to find out they could do the transfer. Yes they could, thank goodness.

I filled in form IM12, handed over a copy of
- new passport
- old passport
- old MM2H visa (last year I made color copies of all relevant documents)
- police report (that was mentioned by Cindy Lim as well)

And after one hour I had a replacement of my MM2H visa in my new passport .

In my opinion they did a great job and at no cost.
I don't need no thought control

Am I missing something - how did you hand over your old passport if it was stolen?

Cheers

I think he handed over a 'copy'

A copy is often required here for many things, and people usually have a spare hanging around :-*
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

hi,

Well done, Danny. It's good, and reassuring, to know that things went so smoothly.

On the copy of the passport. I keep a copy of the photo/data page and the front page. They are back-to-back and laminated. If you lose your passport, or have it stolen, it's saves a lot of time and trouble explaining what got lost. It's a "just in case "measure. Same goes for my driving license and the mm2h visa - both copied and laminated.
