Nice one !!

I hope you found the info on HSBC useful. When you are here let me know and we could get together for a beer and a bit of "tiffin"

Cheers

I think we should "stop meeting this way" -  and let others keep it going.

Hi Brian
that discussion on the expat site regarding maids was a real eye opener. It had all points of view from "treat em hard" to treating them as members of the family. It was after reading that site that I came to the conclusion that the occasional cleaner was more for me.
BB your words are as usual very wise and thanks for the info on the cleaners and part time maids.
It does show how you have to look beneath the surface on some of these issues. (I do like the debate though!)
Cheers

PS
If Rainbow comes on line I would love to hear some stories about life on Langkawi.
PPS Fizzychicken soup ......... your story on crossing the Malaysia/Thai border is one of my favourites. I was silly enough to think that travelling between these countries was like travel in Europe (blink and you miss the border.) Well almost! Any more anecdotes like that would be much appreciated.

From Today's Star Newspaper
Hiring maids by the hour
By NG SU-ANN and LOOI SUE-CHERN

Full article  http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2008/7/1/north/21659277&sec=North

Retired restaurant operator Rebecca Tan, 56, also said an hourly-paid maid was a wiser alternative as it was simply too costly to hire a full-time housemaid nowadays.

Although my agent has increased the charge for four-hour maid service from RM40 to RM42, I don't mind paying the extra money.

Hi folks,

I am in the final stages of moving to Penang after I sold my house at Medan/Indonesia. There we have 2 stay-in maids to give my wife a helping hand (well the house much bigger than the one we bought in Malaysia). Both of them are with us more than 5 years already and are like a part of the family.
Of course we feel responsible for them and are thinking how to do, after we left. The family, wo bought our place not only offered but asked them to stay in the house and continue... - they don't want...
So temporary, they will move to my sister-in-law house, but on the long term run only one of them can stay with her.. it's a smaller house and the maid room quite small, too.
Now we are planning to bring one with us to Penang after we are finally settled. Does anyone here has any experience of bringing in their maid under the MM2H permit?
Any help or advice would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Udo
