Re: Melaka property

Hello and good morning,

Melaka has unlimited housing accommodations all over the place and it is very easy to find a good bungalow or semi-detached house probably all  new in a safe and gated environment. I am living and retired in Melaka and I love the place because of good food and good housing! Anyone thinking to settle here can contact me as I am willing to help them find  good and affordable accommodation.

Ege

That would be me.  Wife and I are planning a visit to Malaysia at CNY 2011 and Melaka is at or near the top of our list to see first hand.  I suppose a dinner or two would be enough to convince you to show us around?

As a start, I would appreciate knowing some areas to consider in / around Melaka.   I can give you an idea of our preferences and price range via email or PM.  Thanks muchly in advance.

I am moving to Malaysia with on August and family will follow on September. I am not retired but work remotely and need to travel abroad frequently. Malacca starts to sound like an really good option. Location with good connection to KLIA and Singapore, out from KL buzz but near enough to visit there if needed... all sounds good so far.

Good internet connection would be essential for my work.. but I am assuming that Malacca does have good providers (any recommendations?).

Before booking an agent to show properties for rent (preferrably condos, since I will be out from home often and will feel more comfortable if the family stays in condo), I would like to ask you who live there: can you advice what districts to avoid?

hi, pete,

We don't seem to have many Malacca members but maybe someone will be able to respond with a bit of information.

Hi Pete

I have lived in Malacca for 3 years now.  Its a great place to live. One of the best kept secrets in Malaysia.

Its only 90 mins  to KLCC Twin Towers car park or 145 mins to Singapore CBT (assuming no hold up at border crossing).  Plus airport finally opening up in November with new Firefly-Mealak airways.

Broadband at 4MB is no problem using Streamyx.

Condos are in Klebang.  Avoid any condos not in Klebang area

Landed properties mostly near Ayer Keroh.  Gated Golf & Country Clubs with pools, tennis, golf, gyms, squash etc etc.

Nothing not to like about the place.

If you want more info send me an email

Thanks Sag, I will note your advices.

One more question came to my mind... and did not succeed with google: are there any English language newspapers there, or does some national papers have regional edition? If yes, do you know if they have online news... would be good to get insight to the area.

Cheers!

There are two national newspaper.  The Star and The New Straights Times.  Pretty useless for home hunting unless you are in KL or Penang.

Malaysia is a country of 3 parts.  KL - Penang - everywhere else!

If you want an idea of rentals - purchases then look at the many online realtors or even Mudah.com.my

But like so many things in Malaysia - nothing beats on location research.

For example the 4 bedroom house next to me - on a golf & country club was just let at 2700RM a month.  A bargain as the going rate is double that.

Timing and 'being there' is everything

Wow things have indeed changed.  I used to live at Klebang Casaurina Condo in 2008 for a year.   We used to have then the fastest 1MB Streamyx.  It was nothing but problem - .  When it works it is more like 200 kbps (0.2 MB).   Good to know the internet has improved.   :P

Well I can't vouch for Klebang but I have lived in the Ayer Keroh area for over 3 yrs and my 4 Meg connection is very reliable.  On SpeedTest it is usually in the high 3s.

Oh ok.  For some reason I assumed you are over at Klebang.  My apologies.  I did not realise that you are over at Ayer Keroh.

Cheers.
