MSIG Basic MM2H Insurance
« on: May 15, 2009, 09:19:09 PM »
hi,

Whilst recently looking around for medical insurance I came across MSIG.

Amienleo, one of the mm2h moderators at alloexpat, gave me the contact.

04 2642828, ask for Nancy.

From reading posats (at alloexpat) at first it seemed that this very basic insurance was just for Japanese (?). I emailed MSIG but got no response. Try phoning.

However, Amienleo tried later and PM'd me to say that for RM300, this company offers minimal health insurance cover to fulfill mm2h purposes. The maximum age is 70.

I'm just putting this out if anyone cares to pursue it. If you do please post any details.

regards, Scott

Hi Scott

We have a MSIG health insurence and are not Japanese. The insurance is tailored to meet the requirements for the MM2H visa. It insures next to nothing but did the trick for our MM2H visa. We got the policy direct from the Penang office next to the Bayview Hotel (near upper Penang road).
The annual premiums are:
Age Below 50 years         -       RM  75.60
Age 50 to 60 years          -       RM 151.20
Age 61 to 70 years          -       RM 226.80
Age 71 and above           -       Decline

Before we went to the office we had email contact with Nancy Choong: nancy_choongATmy.msig-asia.com.
They also do not require a extensive (blood tests et.)medical check up before they except you. Basically the doctor at Loh Guan Lye hospital on Logan Road looked us deep in the eyes, ticked all the boxes and declared us healthy ;D

Hello all,

I have met up with Ms Nancy and her assistant Ms. Yeoh. According to them, their head office has basically stopped the selling to non-Japansese customer.

Anyway, I am so curious that Paul has just got his insurance bought from MSIG. When did you buy the insurance?

Thank you

Hi Amienleo

I bought the insurance 3th of March this year. I am surprised they already stopped. When we got it all went very smooth and straight forward, I think we were in her office less then 45 minutes.

hi,

Many thanks for the information, stuurman.

Why would an insurance company, based in Penang, refuse to sell to non-Japanese? My experience with insurance companies is that they're keen to sell. Very, very keen.

If it is, in fact, the case, maybe one of our Penang members has the time to clarify by making a visit?

regards, Scott

PS : Here's the Conspiracy Theory reason.

There's 1 agent that deals exclusively with Japanese MM2H applicants.    ;)

This agent has had the initiative to arrange a special policy deal.    :D

All very efficient, and well-planned. That's why I buy Japanese white goods and TV's.   ;D

I read sometime back about plans to build Japanese (exclusive) retirement properties in Butterworth,

Initially the insurance package is just sold to others by Penang branch and all went smooth all the time.

My Yeoh, assistant of Ms Nancy just called me last week to tell me that their head office in KL has decided to stop. Anyway, if any of you managed to purchase the insurance or clarify with MSIG, please do update all of us.

Thank you.

Just wondering if it's legal for a insurer to exclude certain nationalities or races when they offer a product?
It would certainly be illegal in Europe.

Hi

It will be a big law sue in the US. It is a violation, discrimanation and unlawful to sell insurance to one race only. Why there is no action from the ministry.

Class action lawsue if you are in the US!!

hi,

Maybe they've stopped (if they have) because of the reasons given by Gin and Donohue.

On reflection, as someone who is 61, I could pay RM226.80 for the MSIG and get almost zero cover. Or I could pay RM885 for the Ringgit Net policy and get RM50,000 cover.

IMHO, a difference of RM660 per year means it's not worth bothering with MSIG and I feel more confident having some meaningful insurance to fall back on.

BTW, I'm only using Ringgit Net figures because I have the brochure in my files.

ING Medical Insurance

I was told that ING has refused to underwrite IRANIANs but they are happy to service the Bangladeshi.  I suspect it has something to do with embargo.

I also don't understand why people would pay RM226.80 for the MSIG and get almost zero cover. Wait till they got admitted into the medical centre for dengue fever and be slapped with a RM 2,850 medical bill or RM 8,000+ for urinary infection which my tourist friend happened to have this heartbreaking experience. The first bill was for his son and the second bill was for the wife.

The reason I applied for the MSIG policy was that I am still covered by my Dutch insurer in other words I needed only a Malaysian insurer to meet the visa requirements.
The premium I pay as I am still under 50 is 75 ringgit. IMO money well spent for the purpose.

He Paul,

I submitted a letter from my Dutch insurer (Zilveren Kruis) stating I was insured. Appearently that was ok, because I got the visa.

Hi Danny

That never even crossed my mind  ???
I was under they impression I needed a Malaysian insurer.
But anyway good for you that it worked out!  ;D
I am now looking for a good Malaysian insurer because I think the Dutch one is a bit expensive compared with prices for Malaysian insurers I read here on the board.
Tried to get the Ringgit Net policy but that has been terminated according to the insurance agent. They seem to come with a new comparable product.

Hi Paul,
Of course I terminated the contract with Zilveren Kruis when I moved to Malaysia and took one from AIA.
Much cheaper but nevertheless a complete waste, because compared to the dutch policy it's rubbish. Almost impossible to claim, unless they do some serious cutting in you. But I took it just in case......

Hi Paul,
Just a note of caution. I think that whilst you will find Malaysian policies are much cheaper than 'Western' ones, the cover will be significantly less.

I have a friend in Malaysia who pays thousands of US dollars annually for his medial cover, but he has already had a triple bypass paid for on it, and still retains full cover.
Not many of the Malaysian policies will stretch that far!! :(
I used to indecisive....but now I am not so sure!
