Here's a couple of new builds in my area, just to give potential my2homers a glimpse of what's on offer.

The villa is obviously a one-off. It's priceless.

The 3-storey terraces (there's 4 properties here) are between RM250,000 and RM300,000 going by general prices in the area.

Here's a close-up of the villa. The column capitals are obviously not ionic, doric, corinthian or composite. I thought that maybe they were an acanthus leaf hybrid. Then it hit me, they're a banana-peel spread. I can now move on.

regards, Scott

Here's some more designs that are currently being built in the Sitiawan and Manjung area, just to give folks more idea of what's available and for comparison. I know that you can get a wider selection on other sites, so this will be it from me.

Central terrace about RM175,000
Middle Picture
Semi-detached about RM220,000
Bottom Picture
Detached about RM250,000

They look so familiar. I have seen similar building designs on the island! Wonder if the builders just bought the same sets of blue print. Obviously the prices are very different!

hi, BB,

Most planning offices have standard designs available for a one-off RM600 planning fee. Maybe that's it. Or all the developers use the same couple of architect's.  Or developers are all marketing to the same audience. Bigger houses just seem to be larger versions of smaller ones. I know that sounds obvious but it's true.

Such little time and effort is spent on creating designs that have anything to do with traditional Malaysian forms, or materials, or anything. I can understand, but not appreciate, an aversion to colonial residential designs, but why totally dump all of a traditional heritage that has developed in response to the climate. Anyway I'm not buying.

The similarity of residential designs is amazing, at least in Perak, Selangor, KL vicinity, and Johor, which are the areas that I travel through quite often.

regards, Scott
