My Second Home Scheme : Clarification if anyone can help.
« on: April 21, 2009, 08:28:03 AM »
First of all, I would like to thank Scott for the incredible resource that he has provided. Incredible amount of information that I am sure has helped so many people. To my questions which I hope are not too garbled.
My intention is of course to apply for the MM2H visa , but have the following questions before I can proceed

1. As I am not yet married to my filipina fiance, would it be possible to add her as a dependant AFTER obtaining the visa?

2. I would be applying under the Fixed Deposit terms. My capital of approx RMB 1 million is in several fixed term accounts which do not issue statements as the interest is not paid until maturity of these accounts. Is there an acceptable way of showing the amount of capital that I have available in these accounts other than the stated "3 months bank statements"

3. My income would only be able to be proved by 3 months bank statements showing the sum of approx RMB 15000 being paid in per month. As I stated before, my actual income is only paid on maturity of the above fixed term interest, but I would arrange for my current account bank statements to show the required amount being deposited for 3months if this would satisfy the visa requirements.
Many Thanks for any help with this.
Regards.Ken

hi, Ken,

Welcome to the site.

1). Adding names to the Visa at a later date. hmmmm? Well, no-one on this site has posted that they've done this. I think that you'd need to send an email to MoTour on this one.

2). You need to show that you have more than RM500,000 (below 50) in cash so showing your capital as various FD's would seem to prove this.

3). The "3 months of bank statements" is for proof of the RM10,000 per month support income. All you have to do is show this so the current account statements would seem to be the way to go.

When I made my own application I spelt out exactly how much I had where. The statements were dated, stamped and signed by the banks. And an extra signature and stamp for "true copies."

And, as it was in various currencies, I put a table in the covering letter, and converted all to US$, and to ringgit.

Maybe other members will be able to comment on your points. Are you making the application via DP?

regards, Scott

Hi, we gave them about 6 months of our bank account showing the money coming in and going out.

We also had fixed deposits and showed copies of the fact that we had them, those copies showed the duration and % interest. To this we added a letter from our bank manager stating that we had x amount of money in the bank and that we had had that approximate amount of money there for the past x years. (banks can generate you a copy of your FD before maturity!)

We did the same like Scott and added a detailed lists of our assets and cash, converted from Euro to Ringgit.

To top it off, our agent Mr. Ong told us to add our last 3 years of tax returns.

Success with the application!

Stephan

@Scott.

Many thanks for the reply. Sorry, should have said that I am over 50, so would be looking to use the FD of RMB 350k.
I have just had confirmation that a dependant can NOT be added at a later date. A completely new application would have to be made after marriage.
Also, as I understand it from the reply to my queries, that although certified copies of my Fixed Term Deposits in the Uk would be acceptable for the capital sum requirements, the Ministry would then calculate my income on THESE investments at the quoted rate, and compare this figure to the amount being paid in to my current account, statements from which I would use to prove the required >RMB10k income.
Problem is, the figures obviously wouldnt match!
Seems that they are not only looking for the correct amounts of income, they need to see where that income is coming from also.
I think the only way forward is to obtain all the appropriate documents that I can, and submit them to the agent, and see what they make of it.

@Stephan
Thankyou for your helpful input. Most useful to know what you used for a successful application. Would not be able to provide tax returns as I have been retired and living outside the UK for years. I would appreciate a contact with your agent if you didnt mind.
Thanks again.

Regards.Ken

hi,

Just to let you know that I applied several years ago (50 ++) before the need to show the RM10,000 support income, otherwise I wouldn't have made it.

The RM10,000 is a real problem for many and we've discussed it on this site many times, plus emails to MoTour. The only way around it is to buy a RM1 million property (!) but you'll still have to deposit, and maintain, RM100,000.

The RM$10k per month is very unrealistic when compared to neighboring Thailand. Most people will not spend even half of that. The more realistic figure should be RM$6-7 k max esp in the current global climate when shares and returns are down. Also the foreign xchange rates is down by approx 30%. I hope that MoTour will take note of that.

cheers

The new MM2H criteria for those over 50 AND RETIRED does not require any fixed deposit- just the monthly government pension of RM10000 (If I am reading the MM2H website wrong regarding this someone please correct me).  In my case,  I feel this was a fair trade off.  I had the monthly pension minimum but did not have the funds for the fixed deposit.  But for those over 50 and still working and who have to provide the fixed deposit and the RM10000,  I can see the unfairness.  I will do my part and email MOT and ask them to consider lowering the monthly pension amount considering the poor economics we are all facing these days.  We need to support each other when possible to ensure the program is open to as many Fizzes, Scotts, Shirley Lius, Jims, etc. as possible :D...Jim, USA

hi,

That's right, jr6020, the more emails to point out that the RM10,000 support income is excessive, the more it will give MoTour something to think about. Especially as my2home numbers are falling.

Again, on the requirements, your right that an applicant over 50 can still apply either (a) on a government pension of at least RM10,000, or (b) on the FD of RM150,000 plus RM10,000 support income if there is no government pension.

It's only just a few years ago that the pension option was more open, i.e. any pension. Then it got narrowed down to a government pension. I guess that a few applicants were "fixing" the proof of pension with documents from any company. Or that MoTour didn't have the resources to check out the credibility of documentation or companies.

Interestingly, for a short period in 2006, there was no need for any support income for those above or below 50. Applicants just needed the FD, and proof of extra funds. If it was OK once before then it could be OK in the future.

regards, Scott

Gin,
Below is the link to the MM2H website home page.  Just pan down all the way to the bottom and clic where it says CONTACT US- you can then send an email.  I tried to do this earlier this evening (here in the US) but got a "server problem" window that popped up when I sent the email.  So I do not know if MOT got it or not.  I will try again later...Jim

Seems like Yvonne at Joy-Stay was reading this post and she contacted MM2H. She emailed me to say ...

Quote
I do not think he was informed correctly, so to double confirm, i emailed Cindy Lim and she quoted :
"In response to your question on the single applicant getting married after he has been endorsed on MM2H programme, yes, he may apply to include his future spouse as his dependant at the appropriate time.   The procedure is the same as for other categories of dependants." In other words, there is no need for new application after marriage J

So, according to this you can apply to include your spouse.

regards, Scott

Hello All.

@Scott. That is very strange as the info that I received WAS from Joy-Stay.Here is the quote:-

"@@@ You will not be allowed to add your fiance as your dependant. The Ministry only considers  "spouses, children, step-children, adopted children and parents of over the age of 60" as the main applicants' dependants. Applicants must provide valid and certified documents to prove the relationships with the dependants mentioned above."

Still it is nice to know that MAYBE it will be possible to add my fiance at a later date.

Many thanks to all for the help.

Ken

Hi Ken,

The way I interpret the information provided by Yvonne is that you can't include your fiance as a dependant on your application as a fiance does not qualify as a dependant. However, once you have obtained the visa for yourself and subsequently get married, you can apply to have your wife included as a dependant on you existing visa.

Cheers
Poul
