hi,

I remember driving into Venice and being told that it was compulsory to park in the large multi-storey municipal car park. Of course I objected, why couldn't I just drive to my hotel in the centre?

Slowly, and in English, an understanding and weary Italian parking attendant explained, "It's the canals, Sir, we haven't filled them in yet."   



I was tired after a long drive, it was new territory, I wasn't sure, and we all fell apart.
