Hi FCS,

In 2004 when I qualified on income I was working for a private Engineering Company. But in 2006 I pulled the plug for early retirement, receiving since then a Company pension. In 2010 when it is time to extend my application, I expect that pension won’t meet the income requirement.
Probably you are, but I’m not sure whether they accept an FD in stead. The worst case however would be applying again from scratch. Better to freeze RM150k for 5 years, at least you got some interest out of it. :-\
I don't need no thought control

Hello,
I would like to share my experience of renewal/extension recently.
Initially I got MM2H approval for 3years in 2005. It was only 3years solely because thats the time I put the FD for. The applicationn was done myself through Immigration Johor.
Two weeks ago I went to JB to renew. I presented all the neccessary docs and the officer told me, "We dont need all those things, I will do it in 30mins for you". I was sceptical but let him go ahead and sure enough in 30mins he came back with the Supervisor, who apologised to me for his colleague and told me he needed the docs I wanted to give originally. Surprise?, no.
In my application I asked for 4years, thats how long my passport will last. The guy told me that really he could only give me 2years, because MM2H was given for inital period of 5yrs, so thats all I was entitled to. I agreed with him on this, but said that my FD had been renewed for 4years. He said I could get the 2yrs within a day but he needed to speak to his Pengara(the boss) about the 4yrs, then this would take 3days. I told him I would wait the three days.
Three days later I returned, asked for this guy, he had it all ready, stamped for 4years!. I waited longer to get the receipt for my 4x RM90 fee than to get the thing done.

Thanks for reporting your interesting experience PRESEIS.

Once again it underscores that it all depends on who you meet on the day. There are just too many permutations to the rules, and why it can't be made clear is beyond me.

When my family and I first joiined in 2002, we only 'signed up' for one year as we had to clarify a number of things before we could comit for longer.

When the year was up we returned and signed up for 5 more years (the maximum possible at that time)....no issue.
Our kids got 4 years as their passports had less than 5 years validity remaining. Last year we returned and had their new passports 'topped up' for another year to bring them into line with mine (ours). They all expire at the end of next month, so that is why I am currently quite curious :)
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

hi, preseis,

Many thanks for post. As FCS says it often depends on who you meet, especially at regional offices.

This messing around really used to irritate me. Now I look at it as an opportunity, if needed. In my view, it's always good to have plenty of open space when dealing with bureaucracy so that somewhere along the lines something will suit everyone. On a higher level I think it's called diplomacy.

regards, Scott
