hi,

The Security Bond is a new thing, or rather a development from the Personal Bond. How much bond is to be paid, to whom and how, and how to get it back on leaving mm2h, are all not addressed. We need to find out, although I imagine it's not a big deal.

Hi Scott
The security bond is 1500 RM for the UK no Visa charge  and 2000 RM for the UK (Laissez Passer) plus 20 RM Visa charge as stated on the Gov web site the bond is returned if you opt out of the MM2H programme.

hi,

Many thanks MartinB.

1). Can you tell me what the UK (Laissez Passer) means?
2). Do you know where the money is placed? Is it handed over when the visa is collected?
3). What is the RM20 visa charge? When I checked the gov. site I didn't understand this. Is it distinct from the RM90 per year for the mm2h visa.

regards, Scott

hi,

I've just checked the new website (www.mm2h.gov.my) and the answer to Q2 is :

Quote
The Security Bond can be in the form of a Banker’s Guarantee/Bank Draft / Money Order placed with bank in Malaysia and made payable to the KETUA PENGARAH IMIGRESEN MALAYSIA .

There's quite a few changes on this new site. I'll check through tomorrow and post in the relevant threads.

Meanwhile, there's an online application available on the site.

I also saw that for renewal proof of offshore income (current) is required. That's a new addition from the previous list for renewal.

Also the security bond is for the applicant, and each dependent.

regards, Scott

A laissez-passer (from the French let pass) is a travel document issued by a national government or an international treaty organization. When issued by a national government a laissez-passer is often for one-way travel to the issuing country. When issued by an international treaty organization it is often for employee travel on official business.

Some national governments issue laissez-passers to their own nationals as emergency passports. Others issue them to people who are stateless, who are unable to obtain a passport from their own government or whose government is not recognized by the issuing country.(From Wikipedia)

I would not think many people have one.

hi,

Many thanks for that. The country/fees lists on the Motour site have a few anomalies (probably typos) so DP's need to double check.

Dear All,

First of all, thanks for the contributions from all of you.  We have finally obtained the Approval Letter, the Social Visit Pass, the iKAD, the Malaysian's drivers license and placed a booking for a Honda CRV.

Would like to share some of our experience with new applicants:-

a/ Security Bond - Some immigration officers and MM2H one stop center staffs are confused that the security bond is not only applicable to the main participant but all dependants as well.  In our case, we only provided them with a bank draft of RM 1,500 for the main applicant and spouse.  At first, the immigration did not accept bank draft as they said they only accept cash now.  After some friendly exchange, they realized that the information at the official MM2H wedsite has not been "updated", and they accepted our bank draft as payment.  I visited the MM2H one stop center today and I was told that one Korean couple was asked to pay by cash and not accepting their bank draft recently.  So, the new regulation is ....  Cash for security bond!

b/ Medical Insurance - AIG does not offer Riggit Net policy anymore and they will not issue policy on the spot as before.  They now offer a Safe & Smart Medical Care plan and we obtained 2 certified true copies of the insurance proposal in 45 minutes.  It then did the trick after presenting 1 copy of the proposal together with the receipt.

c/  iKAD - Upon receipt of the Social Visit Pass on Aug 14, we submitted our iKAD applications immediately even we were being told that they are not sure when iKAD will be available for collection.  Today (Aug 19), we went to the MM2H immigration and picked up our iKADs after receiving a phone call from them!

d/ Malaysian Driving License - For countries entitled for automatic conversion, it is a very simple process.  It only took us half an hour at the JPJ in getting our new Malaysian Driving License.  They only offer a 1 year license for the first time and a 5 year one upon renewal.

e/ Vehicle Purchase - Seems we can only get RM500 discount after calling a few car dealers in KL area.  With a 6 year No Claim record, I was entitled to 55% discount from both MSIG & ING.

Cheers!

Corbin

Hi Georgeshooter,

Tax exemption still applies.  Normally, the dealers do not offer any discount for MM2H program as they have to do a lot of leg work for us with MOF.  RM500 discount is the most I could get and I settled that with one of the dealer nearby.

Cheers,

Corbin
