A good start, forumwise, on MM2H and its success or failure from the recipient point of view
...does anyone have knowledge about how the Malaysian government might, or could, respond?

hi,

It is right that the Malaysian authorities should resist immigrants/MM2H'rs seeking to take advantage of their country but after retiree's have settled in the country for say 10 years if one then failed to meet the requirements it would be quite stressful if one had to  move elsewhere at say 70+.

The only way to fail to meet the requirements is to not have the FD. As long as the FD is kept intact then renewal is given. The medical insurance is subject a waiver for those unable to get insurance.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for clarifying this point and my apology to the forum for a potentially misleading observation.

hi, jac,

For those applying via the FD option it's all very clear. The Bank Lien Letter provides the Malaysian side with some assurance that my2homers will keep the FD cash where they agreed to keep it.

Many of us have renewed on this basis. And those that didn't originally need to have a Lien Letter need one at renewal. I think that it's a very reasonable set-up and it means that Immigration doesn't have to check.

What isn't so absolutely crystal clear (as posted above) is the situation for those folks who applied using the Pension option, and who may be affected by fluctuating exchange rates. No-one on this forum has posted about this.

I assume that immigration takes the sensible view that things can go up and things can go down so as long as there's still proof of the pension existing. Maybe other members have experience and will post.

The MoTour site says :

Current proof of Monthly Offshore Income (if applicable)

Hi Chaps

I think we may all be drifting off topic a little here. The original aim of the thread was to see how we could engage with the authorities over the the MM2H program. The perfectly valid points are now being made are in danger of getting lost in the wealth of information available on the site.

Regards

Bob

hi,

Thanks for that Qjumper. I've split off the last few posts and created a new topic "Liquid Assets" in the MM2H - Application/Requirements board.

It's at : Liquid Assets

Scott, QJ - I never really understood what this bit of the board was all about until a couple of months ago.  I'm wondering if others might be thinking the same as me.  On the index page it just says MM2H Moving Forward.  Would it be an idea to put something underneath to explain what that section is all about?

hi,

Good idea, thanks. The forum has grown a bit, last year and this. There's some areas that members from 2007 & 2008 know about and forget that later members will not be able to track.

The idea is that, sometime this year, I've promised to put the great ideas & opinions of "MM2H Moving Forward" into some order and get it to the MM2H authorities. Still 8 months to go on this promise. Should be about time.    ::)

I'll add a short description item to the main heading toot sweet.
