VAT free car from UK

I intend to get a car from UK and export it to Malaysia as part of MM2H- Now does anyone know whether I can claim the VAT back on export as the 15% comes out to quite a bit?? I will be buying it new and just before the visa is stamped ( I am hopeful)

I could be 100% wrong here but I think that the car has to be 6 months old before you are allowed to import it into Malaysia

From what I have read, there is no time constraint on the period one has owned the car before export-the only rule one has to own it before the passport is stamped with the visa, so in effect it could be a day before the granting of the visa although it won't do you any favours from the Malaysian Customs point of view. Anyway what I wanted to know is whether one can claim the VAT back from HMRC as it is going overseas.

Would not then HMRC be your best point of contact - I would think one phone call would give you the Gen

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction the following excerpt from the site sort of answers my question

"The Personal Export Scheme is for visitors to the UK from outside the EU, and EU residents who intend to leave the EU and remain outside it for at least six months. Under the scheme, when you buy a motor vehicle in the UK and you're going to export it, you don't have to pay VAT."
