I don't recall having to have any "sponsor" when we signed up - September 2007

Me neither- I used NO sponsor when I dropped off my application and forms at MOT way back in Sep '07 and was never asked or required to have one by any MM2H official at the time...jr6020

hi,

There was a period when the need for a sponsor (and the sponsor signed the Personal Bond Form) didn't apply. With no need for a sponsor there was no-one to sign the Personal Bond Form so that went as well.

It was dropped in April 2006 when MoTour came into the picture.

The Personal Bond Form came back at the end of June 2007 when "agent only" applications came into effect. The agent signed the Personal Bond Form thus taking on the role of a sponsor.

Check-out Personal Bond

regards, Scott

I wonder whether this move is a right one.  Tried calling MM2H One Stop Centre on all the lines stated in their brochure for the last 20 minutes and all the lines are engaged.  I symphatise with the officers who are manning the calls.

Of course it was the right move :) Now people have a choice. You can still use an agent, and it is recommended if you haven't lived here and are not familiar with procedures! There could be a dozen reasons why the phones are not being answered including understaffing thought illness etc.
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

hi,

My own feeling is that the One Stop Centre doesn't have many staff. I've tried several times to email via the MM2H MoTour site and never did get any replies. However, emailing to an individual usually does get a response.

hi,

I received a reply from Cindy at MM2H to say that my email regarding the Personal Bond needing to be signed by an agent had been received.

There hasn't yet been any further emails but I checked MoTour's MM2H site today, and the Personal Bond bit on the list of application requirements has gone.

Quote
5 Personal bond (Regulation 18) * must be completed and signed by Malaysian who is one of the Board of Directors/Shares Holders/ Managing Director/ Manager from the appointed MM2h licensed company);
The Personal Bond must be stamped by The Stamping Office

Note: A Personal Bond is to be made for each applicant and dependent.

The above is taken from BB's  post on 9th January 2009 : Agents No Longer Required

Item 5, as above, has gone and the previous list of 12 items for a New Application now has 11 items.

The Personal Bond Form is still on the website. Obviously a bit more clarity is required on this so I'll email MoTour.

However it's good news that MoTour has followed through with this.

regards, Scott

hi, Rex,

Yes, it's stated on the www.mm2h.gov.my website, so you no longer need an agent.

1. Effective 9 January, 2009 foreign citizens may apply to participate in MM2H programme directly, without going through any other third party, OR may continue to use the services of MM2H agents licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia.
