Anyone heard anything about access cards?
« on: July 31, 2008, 11:57:29 AM »
Not sure how many others are in the same boat, but here goes...

Hubby and I work in Singapore. Not a problem on the Singapore side, as we have Employment Passes (green cards) and the Singapore Immigration Authority lets us enter and leave with only baleful looks, thumbprints and NO stamping of passports. Yay!

Problem is on the Malaysian side where, even though we have our MM2H visa, passport still has to get stamped. (Now, how does this make sense when any seasoned traveller is bound to run out of passport pages within 10 years?!) We find we're running out of pages quick!

Heard a rumour that some new fangled access cards will be issued. Is this true? Will they obviate the need to stamp bloody passports? When will they be introduced? Heard they've already been introduced for students, is this true? Will the Riddler escape from Arkham Asylum and join up with Scarecrow?

Anyone?

PS Only just got back online after a month deprived of internet access. The management at Time dot Com suck big time. People on the ground are great, but the management need a damn good course in attitude adjustment.

PPS Spoke to some lady in Putrajaya. Says that, even with the access card, we still need to get our passports stamped. Makes no sense. Seeking clarity, getting mud.

Yes the MM2H card is a mystery. Some people (very few I believe) have actually been issued with it, and some time ago aswell. I have met a person has it. Was ti a trial?? I don't know!!

I don't know about still getting the stamp at immigration but it doesn't surprise me. I guess it is better than getting a whole page visa as is the case for Indonesia, Vietnam, and numerous other places. I know a guy who used to have to get a new 48 page passport every 4 or 5 months, when he was working & travelling in a number of countries where the visa was a must.

(I think there is another thread on this forum about the MM2H card).

Like many I was delighted when they abolished that immigration card, (god knows where those millions of cards end up and who uses the info on them).  The bad news is that they are being introduced again in 2 weeks time as apparently people are entering the country and overstaying and no one knows where they are :o :o :o. Not filling in that little card and submitting it is going to change things a lot, isn't it. ::) ::) ::) ::).

Another great emample of a Malaysia Govt 'Flip Flop' :-X
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Say it isn't so!!!! Jesus Christ, if I tell DH that he has to fill out one of those poxy cards again every time he comes back from SG (he goes there more often than I do), he'll go ballistic!

Time to start scheming to try and get a local job, I think. Not sure I should say thanks, fcs. Hope you understand. :P

hi,

The latest on the MM2H ID cards is that there's no change from the latest from last year. Eventually Immigration will have gotten through the process of issuing cards to students et al, and will then proceed to mM2H visa holders - or not.

MM2H visa Card ID's previously issued (some were given out about 3 years ago) were obviously a trial run or a mistake.

regards, Scott

Scott's right.  Do not expect any help from MOT or Immigration.  Everytime I inquire the reply is the same..."still working on students and foreign workers" then maybe get to MM2H folks.  Regarding those white cards when entering the country- I had to fill one out in Sept and expect to again when I return Dec 10.  At least (in my case anyway) they (KLIA IMM) stamp PP page right next to previous stamp and not leave empty space on pages...Life goes on...Jim (jr6020) USA
