Immigration Cards Are Back
« on: August 19, 2008, 08:30:03 AM »
Hi,

Got back from Hong Kong last night and when coming through immigration was informed that from 15th August have to fill in the old white forms again. I had not, as no one on the plane mentioned it or handed out cards. As the MM2H line was not occupied I went through the other priority lane where there were a big group of people moaning and groaning about having to now fill the forms in. I asked ,as I had a long term visa did I need to fill in the form ,and they said - wait for it - NO !! Might be a hit and miss thing but maybe we are becoming "recognised" as being more "permanent" residents.

Cheers

Brian

It will be interesting to see what happens at airports where there isn't a separate desk for MM2H. I haven't entered via KLIA for several years.

KLIA does have a separate lane for MM2Hers.  We will be entering Malaysia from Sadao (Thai border) in the next week, and although I knew the card was being reintroduced, (I think I posted it already on the site somewhere!!!) we don’t have any with us, so therefore won’t present one or ask for one…..we let y’all know what happens :-\

I know that KLIA has a separate lane but I'm not aware of any other airport which does. I nearly always enter Malaysia at Penang airport.

Sadly NO, and no one seems to know if they will ever become 'the norm'. As mentioned on another thread, a few people have them but they are the minority, and why they were issued to just a few is another one of those great mysteries. :(

hi,

Just to let you know that on the land entries to Malaysia from Singapore (Causeway and 2nd Link) it has always been white cards. They never went away so they don't have to come back.

regards, Scott

I read somewhere that 'Immigration Cards' were being re-introduced because Immigration found that after they had ceased using them they could no longer trace people who 'had outstayed their welcome'. How the immigration card can assist in cases where individuals deliberately 'outstay their welcome' is beyond me, as presumabely half the info on the card was false to begin with.

Anyway, I promised to post what happed as we entered Malaysia from Thailand at the Sadao crossing, hoping that we would have a similar experience to Brian..

Sadly not the case.

We presented our 4 passports with new shiny 5 Year Visa page clearly open & displayed. The immigration officer asked where our Immigration cards were :o. We said boldly, 'We don't need them as we have a 5 year Visa, and Immigration know were we are :P!

'Oh Yes You Do' he replied as he handed back the four passport whilst enquiring how many Immigration cards we wanted. 'Twenty will be fine for now', we replied >:(

Dum tee tumm....such is life in Malaysia :-* :-*

HI,

Following FCS. As I said it will depend on who you get at the control. Been in and out twice since 15th August - both times no card no problem. My wife came up from Perth on Sunday told her not to bother with card - yes you have guessed it - where's your card? Had to fill one in.

Off to Singapore next week - will let you know what happens

Cheers

Brian

Scott, maybe it is you, but a couple of months ago no need for white card. Will visit Singapore next week, see if consistent with Brians experience.

hi, DannyB,

You could be right. After I posted I realised that I'd never tried it without the card. A few years ago
I was going in and out like a yo-yo so now the card is an ingrained habit.

The checkpoint never said "no card needed" so maybe they didn't know either.

I'll be interested on the latest ruling.

regards, Scott

Hi all,

Since when " no white card needed"? and when is the come back? I remembered when I picked up our mm2h visa at PJ in Jan 08',I asked whether we still need to fill in the white card when we enter malaysia with the mm2h pass? "YES" was the answer.

Cheers,
Shirley.

This has been my experience too.  No matter if I flew China Air or Malaysia Air I was always given a white card by the flight attendants prior to landing at KLIA so I just filled it in.  Having a MM2H visa does not appear to make any difference. I will be arriving next week on a flight with Korean Air and will be interested if they hand out the card too having never flown with them before (I always take a few extra cards from the attendants and keep them handy when returning).  If the policy has changed and the cards are no longer required for us MM2H folks I will let you all know next week...jr6020, USA

When we flew back to Penang from Bangkok recently I didn't fill in a white card and Penang immigration didn't ask for one, they just wrote down our MM2H visa details on a list (apparently not computerised yet). Then again, that could just be Penang's relaxed way of doing things!
