Tax Free Car on Renewal
« on: August 06, 2008, 10:37:59 PM »
I am reliably informed by a very helpful lady at the Ministry of Finance that if you did not qualify for (or more importantly did not benefit from), a 'Tax Free' car on first application (this applies mainly to those who joined in 2002/3, as the tax free car policy was not introduced until some months later), and you are now reapplying or about to re-apply for another 5 years then the Tax Free car is on offer to you this time around.

If you joined and renewed for periods of less than 5 years .....you do not qualify!!!!!.

If you already have had a Tax Free car .....you do not qualify!!!!!.

It only applies if you initially had a 5 year Visa, and your are now re-applying for 5 years!

More later......

Interesting. Just read what Fizzy wrote, being allowed to buy the tax-free car at the next renewal?
I still have a yr to go before renewal for another 5 yrs. and might consider as I missed out the first time.
Would be great if Fizzy can fill us in on this when he gets back to MY.

Regards,
BB

Thanks for the reminder BB. I have been back in KL for a number of weeks already but have been a bit busy. I haven't forgotten, and I will update soon :-[
I have been 'firefighting' with computers....big problem ...but determined to fix it. Enjoying the challenge.

Just a word of advice...don't go for a Honda CRV....they are disappearing faster than snow off a mossy bank on a warm Spring morning. ~36~

Seriously....after some warning post already, I read in a local Blog, that 2 went missing last week from two different locked compounds just down the road from here :(

Hi all,

so you're basically saying that EACH time you're up for renewal, REGARDLESS if it's a 5 or 10 year visa, that it's "BINGO! JACKPOT! PASS GO AND COLLECT A NEW CAR!" time, ad infinitum?  :o  ???  :)  Or, of course, until the game rules change?!   ~38~  :'(

Seems to me that people would be on their hands 'n knees for a 5 yr. visa instead of a 10 yr. one  ~2funny  ~22~ , unless you just wanted to avoid the hassle  ~53~ of visa and/or passport renewal twice in a 10 year timeframe instead of just once.  ~52~

Cheers,
Ursa Major, ret.  :D

Hi Fizzy, why is it 2002/3 ?
Ours is 2004 and in the MM2H Visa page it's not MM2H but SHP (Silver Hair Program). We're just kind of at the transition of SHP and MM2H. Now, I'm wondering if those in 2004 are excluded  :-\

Yes this thread need to be combined with my original to avoid the confusion we see above. Not sure why this second thread was started when the original stated the intention to post the detail when time permitted.

Also why did prora020 read my original thread, and then come to this thread to post his comment ::) ????

BB,
Your information is most weird, and I am sorry I cannot explain it! ??? ???

We signed up in July 2002, and that was the transition (i.e. the start of the new new re-vamped Silver Hair Programme, but with the new name Malaysia My Second Home). Our Visas always have been MM2H.
I think you will still qualify for the car though despite this quirk.

Let's is know how you get on.

Hi Shirley,

The letter is actually given to you when your get your first MM2H 5 or 10 year visa, as well as when you renew. It is that letter.

I goes something like....."With regard to the above I am pleased to inform you that your application has been approved for a period of .....blah blan blah....subject to the following terms and conditions......blah blan blah.....  Ours was written in English but that doesn't mean they all are ::)

So you don't need a different form. If you already have a visa you will also have the letter, and it will be certified already! :)
