If you are looking for life cover then you should consider international cover. It is written black on white, and some do provide rates based on the latest premium paid before going over 70 - the limit to apply.

They also do cover you worldwide, and your contract follow you when moving to another country - if you wish to one day. Quite important so as to not be limited by potential chronic and pre-existing conditions down the road  ;)

They may be more expensive, but some do remain competitive once you reach 60+ and wish to get a decent level of cover.

Disclosure - I work in this field  ;)

Bumping my #36 post here.

We will be claiming our visa in January and am preparing for that.

At my age I don't think it is worth getting insurance and a lawyer friend suggests I should also not get a rejection letter as it may compromise my worldwide medical insurance. We all know how those Insurance Co's try to avoid payout if full declarations are not complete.
Does the MM2H Immigration people need a rejection notice or does my age simply suffice.

I am looking for the cheapest insurance to cover my wife that complies with the MM2H Visa requirement. We have our own worldwide insurance and do not intend yet to live in Malaysia, so only need the cheapest to meet the minimum requirement.

Has anyone else done this...I would very much appreciate guidance.

thanks

David

My experience is that, indeed, you have to fill in a form.  Your agent will send this to an insurance company, who will send a rejection letter on the grounds of age.  The agent will send this to mm2h, who will give an exemption.

This bureaucratic farce could simply be negated by mm2h giving exemption automatically on grounds of age, or better still, not making an insurance requirement for anybody.

I cannot comment on any effect that the rejection might have.  It would be tragedy if your existing insurance was compromised by what is, in effect, a fiddle.  Would it prudent to raise the matter with your insurance company, or better to let sleeping dogs lie?

Can you get a letter from your insurance company stating that it's applicable in Malaysia?

Scott...I was looking into that as you wrote because Yvonne at Joy-Stay also advised the same.

The 14 pages of my policy are written so small and so full of lawyer-speak that I will need to scrutinize using a lamp and a magnifier. However, the brochure which advertises this product is clear:

Page 2
Q. Where will I be covered?
A. Everywhere, You and your family will have the coverage you need anywhere you travel. Call xxxx and you'll get multilingual assistance from an experienced Global team that will get you the help you need any time, day or night.

I expect that is from some call centre in Bangalore or even Ipoh. ;D

Thanks for the help.

Hi Davita!
My experience is the same stated as Feebee's. Put your apps. up, get rejected and you will get exemption.
Best of luck to you.

Gidday Everybody,
I decided to check out my HBF medical insurance in Australia for a Travel Insurance extra, because I am 65 years of age and the minefield of detail on Malaysian medical insurance wasn't giving me any "peace of mind".
So, the bottom line is that I applied online, was given a 10% discount for being an existing member, and another 10% discount for applying and paying online.
Net cost for "Super" cover for one year is AUD $2420 for my wife and myself.  ALL Medical expenses incurred during that period will be covered, "Whatever It Costs", is the wording.
Now that is total peace of mind.
I lived in USA for 13 years, and our average cost for medical insurance was AUD $12000 per annum.
When we returned to Australia in 2006 it was costing AUD $3000 per annum, so an addtional cost of AUD $2420 is no impediment at all.
My final point on all of this is to go with the medical insurance from your country of exit rather than your country of entry. It means you won't have any stress in your life regarding medical insurance.
Cheers & Beers, JAYDEE
