understanding tax and residency in uk

Hi,

I am at present both working in UK for about six months and living here in Malaysia for the other six months (not working)
This seems a good compromise. But I cannot get my head around this residency business that the Uk has about being out of the country for more than six months you will loose tax benefits. Am I better to loose these benifits or to stay within the six month rule and continue to get them. Its driving me crazy. You try asking the tax office, even they dont know !!!
Does anyone know of a good international accountant who can answer some of these questions and many more?
