An article from this weekends Star on  an occasional French get together in Penang. Sounds great. Has anyone been?
 Full article at

There was tender and fragrant gigot poché, leg of lamb marinated with garlic slivers then poached, sliced and served with its own gravy, and poisson au four (whole fish baked in foil).

To accompany it, chef Felix served a healthy Waldorf Salad made with fresh green apples, onions and red cabbage, sprinkled with crunchy toasted almond flakes then tossed with a light dressing.

There was also a yummy baked potato and cauliflower au gratin, its creamy texture nicely contrasted with the crispy breadcrumb topping.

No French meal is complete without sliced baguette, brown and crusty on the outside, soft, white and fluffy on the inside, and there was plenty available to mop up the leftover sauces with.

hi,

This all sounds wonderful. Will there be a franchise to places other than Penang? The market in and around Telok Intan (well, occasionally me) is ripe for this.

I was thinking that we should have an OOP North get together.

Possible delicacies to be served could be,

Bread n drippin Canapes

Potage au Workowse

Pot-au-feu - Blind Scouse (sans viande)

Tarte Confiture (Jam Tart)

To follow - demitasse of freshly brewed bovril

I am sure this would appeal to Brits with delicate pallettes, na then oo sed us Brits cant cuk

hi,

Here in the Algarve it's sardines, baked potatoes, sardines, and more bloody sardines. There's also chips.

My apologies to donohue who stated this with a sensible article about French food. I'm afraid that I (and the Scottish chapter) brought down the tone of the thread.

Rather than ruin a serious thread, why not post funnies etc in the 'Funny Bone' corner which is a sub heading under 'Chit Chat', or start a new thread under an appropriate heading which people can then read/subscribe to or ignore as the case may be???
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

I presume the answer to donohue's question is "No" at least from the ones who have read this thread so far, (which at the time of posting was 130):-[

Because........

We don't all throw our rattles out of the pram

Or

Because Golf jokes are boring to all non golfers

Or

Because maybe the 130 visits to the topic was to see what funny reply there had been

Or

Because the topic is "Food" and most of the posts are about food, light hearted or not (Well they was!)

Or

Use the report to mod button

Or

I don't know - just having a laugh and joke and I am sure the original poster would have something to say if they was offended

Sorry - I am off to give myself a dam good thrashing

Cheers

Hi all
it is wonderful to see that the traditional anglo views on French haute cuisine and all other things french are still alive and well.
Anyone for a game of petanque?
By the way who are you guys going to follow in the European championship now that Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Old Dart are no shows?
Cheers
Donohue

Fine JJ. I just hope you didn't hurt yourself too much :o

For sake of clarification 'Funny Bone Corner' is not restricted to golf jokes, although that is all I have posted there so far. Let's have a few more in there we could all do with a laugh.
I am not a lawyer; economist; accountant; politician, etc but I still find jokes about them or most other topics are often good for a laugh :)

Anyway I am not off to fill the car up with petrol, that will soon stop me from laughing :'(

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam going into  Central London. Nothing is moving north or south. A man knocks on his window.
The driver rolls down his window and asks, 'What happened, what's the hold up?'
The man replies 'Terrorists have kidnapped  Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling.  They are asking for a  £10 million ransom. Otherwise they are going to douse them with petrol and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, taking up a collection.'
The driver asks, 'On average, how much is everyone giving?'
The man replies 'About a gallon.'

I see that Malaysian Petrol per litre is about 44p  - the UK is runninga t £1.26-1.36 and rising...
