Hi Bob & Molly,

We heard from a few friends at the club the new food caterer is not as good (food & pricewise) as the old one that went over to PSportsC ~36~
They could be new but hopefully will respond to feed backs and improve by the time we're back.
Would appreciate any updates from you  ;)

Regards,
BB

Hi BB,

I hope all is well with you and your family,

We have been to the club a few times for lunch and I have mixed feelings about the changes. I dont know too much about previous standards but I can say that the service was intially very poor. I put this down to the stress that the staff were under due to taking over such a large restaurant. The serving staff (bar for one) showed a tidak boleh attitude. They seem to stand arround chatting and avoiding the glances of diners. This has since improved a little. We have now dined there on 3 occasions and so have a little exposure to their menu. Of what we have seen so far local food seems to be really good but western food is truly awful. On the other hand prices are very low. Currently no wine available :o

The view from the huge windows is wonderful, looking over towards Gunung Gerai and the islands. Compared to the old world charm of the previous restaurants the new tower block is totally lacking in character and will take some time to bed in.

All in all I think we have to wait and see.

Although we are still in our probationary stage no wanted posters have appeared yet. should I be worried :-\

Thanks Bob n Molly for the updates and knowing there's the really good local food :)\
Hopefully the service and western food will improve, the sooner the better. I've heard some members who are not satisfied with the service and food are protesting silently by not going to the new restaurant! Apparently if the restaurant does not make Rm100,000 (some thing in that range) per mth for 3 consecutive months their contract could be terminated.

Anticipation.......Your "wanted portraits" will be up soon...just look out for them on that notice board. Usually there are 2 lots on the board and when the earlier or later one comes down yours will be the next  ;D In the mean time you have to put on your best behavior  :D ~2funny

We're busy and enjoying our little grandson who seems to be hungry every 2 hours ~18~ Just giving daughter and her hubby a break and much needed rest while we're here and we'll definitely need a long rest when we get back to Penang  ~16~

Re: Which fitness club in KL

My wife has suggested that if I join a club of my choice then she would like to join a club of her choice.

We were in Bukit Bintang area KL yesterday and came across a California Fitness booth offering a special deal on membership, it basically worked out at about 100rm per month and you sign up for 12 months (sounded good to me - nice and cheap!). Across the road outside Sungei Wang were Fitnes First offering a rival membership package.
I'm also aware of Celebrity Fitness and True Fitness being in the vicinity...I just want to get her somehting cheap that has some aerobic classes etc

Anyone got any experience of these clubs or suggestions of which to go for?

Thanks

We've joined Celebrity in Pg over a yr before we're PSwim.C members because we try to go together. But some of my female friends are with http://clarkhatchfitness.com/CH/Directory.htm which is just for ladies.

Hi BB

Thanks for the info on the clubs, now that you're members of the Penang Swimming Club, do you still find a need to be a member of Celebrity Fitness? and was joining Celebrity worth it?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

There was an offer when we joined Celebrity Fitness, for 18 months advanced payment we're given another 18 mths free for each of us.
We've not used the Club's yet as there're still close to 2 yrs before our Celebrity's one expired and once that happens we'll be using the PSwimClub's. For me it's just maintenance and resistance exercises, but for my hubby it's for strengthening to prevent injuries as he still plays quite a bit of tennis esp with guys 20-30 yrs his junior  ;D
One of the main criteria he joined the PSC besides other benefits was the gym has the basic equipments he required for his routine. After looking over the gym at PSC he said it's close to the ones at HKU where he used to work out when we're in HK, though the PSC's not modern like that at Celebrity's. If you're not with other clubs then I'd say Celebrity is good as it has more equipment & group programs than Clark's ...but as you see Clark's caters to ladies.
Would be good to just try out using their complimentary free sessions or a month pass before committing to longer terms. :)

Hi BB

Thanks for the info, Natasha and I will be going around all the main clubs to see who offers the best value and the most suitable range of classes and equipment.

Thanks again

Paul

Bob

Will you be joining the Penang swimming club? its a snip at 80,000 MR for membership

 :o

Cheers

I know this is an old thread but I've just been looking at the membership fees (Ordinary Member) of the PSC and it says RM 40.00 per month.  That's not RM 80,000.  Or have I missed something?

MMM

Strange

Looks like I might have mixed it up with the penang club

http://www.penangclub.net/Membership.htm

But even that does not say 80,000

I wonder if there was a misprint on the club website when I looked ages ago that has now been corrected - or I was into my 5th dram for the evening  :-[

Cheers

I looked at the PSC site when I joined and it quoted RM80k, when I asked at the club they said RM60k but no-one pays that. There is a list of those members wanted to sell a membership and currently the going price is around RM18-20k plus RM6k admin fee. It takes around 3 or 4 months to get in and you need a sponsor that has been with the club for over 3 years. You then have to learn the rules and go through a very old colonial induction process. The final act is appearing in front of the committee of 17 members to be quizzed on why you want to join and what other clubs and societies that you belong to.

No secret handshakes but you can be blackballed while your photo is up on the wall waiting to be approved.

Bob, when we joined the quote was 100K if purchased directly from club...maybe that was old and was not updated! But, who would even 60k in Pg?  :-\

Papaya, separte costs for buying the membership and monthly fees - for the main member it's Rm40+ and associate (spouse) Rm30+ ....well some thing like that la per month  :P
