Hi All,

One of my my hobbies here in Australia is brewing my own beer and stout. I imagine that I'd have to give that up when moving to Malaysia.  :'(
Has anyone got any infomation to the contrary?

Cheers
Poul

Hi Poul

Why would you think that you could not carry on brewing?  Is it because it is a Muslim country

Cheers

Yes that was my thinking. I have not been able to find any Malaysian legal / regulatory reference relating to this, there is however a clear restriction on the Kastam website prohibiting importation of "Apparatus or equipment for the brewing of beer in homes". So I guess I wouldn't be able to bring my kegs over to Malaysia.

I'm aware that there is home brewing going on in Malaysia; I vaguely remember en encounter with the local 'tody' a few years back. ;D - and then there are the various types of home brewed rice wine (mostly used for cooking, I believe). But I've never heard of anyone making their own beer or wine Malaysia.

I'd be grateful if anyone could point me to a reference on the web.

Cheers
Poul

hi,

Treat it like "toddy." If folks can brew toddy, why not beer. Maybe it's because toddy can also be used as paint stripper, thinner, and you can run some motors on it.

There are guys in my local night market that sell bottles of the stuff. Morning toddy is the quality stuff, by evening the toddy has gone off a bit. But if you've been drinking it all day you won't care.

regards, Scott

This is a topic near and dear to our hearts, so I had to do some intertube roaming!

http://www.autho-rity.info/2008/01/27/1-singapore-home-beer-brewing-introduction/ says:

These are the 2 main beer kit suppliers in Singapore. Take a look at their website for more information. Both iBrew and Homebrew will do freight to Malaysia and Indonesia.

URLs are:

iBrew - www.ibrew.com.sg
Homebrew - www.homebrew.com.sg

Hope this helps! We're about a year away from getting set up to do this, so any replies to how this works in the interim would be very much appreciated.

I wonder how I'll go with my  "Water Purifier"  and 20 litres or so of "Cleaning Fluids"on board the boat while cruising around up there?
