Do you have to attend Putrajaya in person?
« on: February 01, 2008, 06:04:28 PM »
I've now met 2 MM2H families in Penang who said they did not attend the visa office in Putraya to get their visa stamps - their agents just took their passports and other documents from Penang to Putrajaya and did it for them.

This contravenes what our own agent says and also the impression I have from following this forum.

Can anyone comment on this?  It would be great if I did not have to drag my wife and kids there and my agent can just do it for us!

regards,
John

HI,

My clear understanding when we applied is that you had to "appear" in person with all the appropriate documents to get your visa(s). That being all those whose passports were to be endorsed with the visa. However, who knows? Some agents may have a "special relationship" with certain officers there.

Cheers

Brian

hi,

The last time that I was in Immigration at Putrajaya an agent was there with his clients. Like Brian, I also understand that you need to appear in person so that the immigration officer can check that the photo on the passport is the same as the person standing in front of him.

If anyone has successfully done it another way, maybe they'll post.

regards, Scott

Just to update this thread. I have just renewed for 5 years, and our children did not have to attend. It may be different for 1st time applicants.
Secondly we did not need two copies of IMM55 with a pohoto attached. The Immigration office gave us the 2nd set back at the time of application.
I used to indecisive....but now I am not so sure!

Just wanted to revive this thread as I've been discussing this question (offline) with someone on this board.  Some agents seem to go with the line that you must attend in person.  One particular agent in Penang (not the agent I am using) is apparently stating that you do not have to attend and they will take your passport(s) and get the visa.  This seems to be in line with John B's comments from last year.

This is an old thread - I wonder if anyone has actually managed this (not going to Putrajaya in person).

I've just been in touch with Cindy Lim at the MM2H Centre on this very issue, as my daughter has a new passport; Miss Lim advised me that we (i.e. me as the main applicant & my daughter) have to attend the MM2H office in KL in person to have my daughter's MM2H visa transferred to her new passport.

hi,

What does it say on your conditional approval letter. My original approval letter states that the applicant must be present.

My renewal letter from earlier this year states, "subject to the terms and conditions stated above kindly ensure that you, the applicant MUST BE PRESENT to produce your passport during the collection of the pass. The pass will then be issued upon the full settlement of the fees and documents stated as below:"

The capital letters, and the bold are not mine. They are in the letter. So check your letters.

What's the name of the Penang agent and I'll email them to ask for an explanation.

I can confirm Scott's above post.
My recent conditional approval also states the same. The only difference is that mine says applicant(s).

Hi,

I am new in this forum. We got our MM2H Visa in June 2009. Our agent told us we don´t need to go to Putrajaya in person, he did it alone and it worked well.

A friend of mine picked up his MM2H visa a couple of weeks ago. This is a copy of his email to me which states that the process can be done in the Landmark building in KL and not Putra Jaya:-

You should then go to the Ministry of Tourism at the World Trade Centre, which is close to Central KL, and they will do the whole process in a very plush room and you simply wait your turn.
We only waited for about 15 Min's to be served. So as long as all your docs are in order they will process the applications quite fast, but
do make sure you have photocopies of everything including your passports before you go, as they will not make copies for you.
Make sure you have cash to cover the visas for each of you.

We actually went to the new capital in Putra Jaya to do our applications but later we went to the Landmark office to get the immigration cards for the immigration machines at the Airport . However, they have run out of these cards and will not have a stock until next year. We made enquiries and found out the whole thing could have been done in KL at the Landmark office.

I have asked Joy-stay to verify this.

hi,

In November Joy-Stay confirmed to me that, "Since May 2009, all MM2H Conditional Approval Letters clearly state clearly that applicants MUST obtain their new MM2H visas at  Immigration Unit, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, Level 6, Menara Dato' Onn, Putra World Trade Centre, 45 Jalan Tun Ismail 50695 K.Lumpur."

Welcome to the forum Bintang.

The item about an agent in Penang saying that applicants don't need to go in person, and your own comment that the agent did it for you, would seem to contradict the Conditional Approval Letter which states : "subject to the terms and conditions stated above kindly ensure that you, the applicant MUST BE PRESENT to produce your passport during the collection of the pass."

There doesn't seem to be an explanation for this  :(  other than Brian's comment above that maybe there's a special relationship somewhere in the process. Certainly, the official line seems to be to attend in person.

hi, Davita. Does your friend mean the PWTC rather than the Landmark office/building? Or are they the same?

Hi Bintang - that's interesting isn't it.  What did your Conditional Approval Letter say?  Did it say that you must be present in person (or something different)?

Hi everybody!
In my MM2H Approval Letter it stated in the last paragraph as follows:
Subject to your agreement to the terms and conditions stated above kindly ensure that you, the applicant "MUST BE PRESENT" to produce your passport during the collection of the pass. The pass will then be issued upon full settlement of the fees and documents stated below: ...................................
...
...

Our MM2H Visas were issued on 09 June 2009.
At MM2H Centre PWTC  Kuala Lumpur.
We there together with our Agent.
The Immigration Officer look at both of us and all the Apps. and in 15 minutes
everything was DONE.
MAKE SURE you bring "CASH" to pay for the VISAS!!! No Credit Card or Debit Card.
It might be a hassle to get the family there. But best bet is to go with you agent.
Some other agent might have a special relationship with the Immigration Office
more power to them.

But when you want to Import your Tax Free Car later it can be done by your Agent, you don't have to be present to get all those paper works approve.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi,

our Approval Letter says that we should be present and we were ready to go there. There must be a special relationship between agents and officials sometimes, I guess.
