Hi Col,

This was my situation exactly. Initially my agent said that because I was working I should use my working salary to support my application. I already had told him that when I come to Malaysia I would be retired. This should have been self evident because MM2Hers cannot work while in Malaysia.
I suppose there are a limited number of applicants who reside in Malaysia but are still generating offshore income (other than investments), unfortunately I am not one.

Now this was in the days (last year) when applications on an earnings basis were still allowed. That application was rejected. And the ministry asked for an application based on fixed deposit and retirement income. This was much simpler as my pensions had just kicked in so I could show some evidence.

To returning to your initial questions.

From the Ministry:
Quote
Applicants are expected to be financially capable of supporting themselves for ten years on this programme in Malaysia, without the need to work in the country.  Besides fulfilling the basic financial criteria of Fixed Deposit placement of RM150,000 (for those aged 50 and above) or RM 300,000 (for those aged below 50), applicants should furnish documentation on their financial position to strengthen their application.

So apart from FDs I take that to mean show documented proof of pensions, investments, savings and bank activity. Possibly also home ownership. Throw in some 3 months payslips as well and all should be well. I would also advise sending these documents to your agent via FEDEX or some such means but definitely not Royal Mail.

You can apply at any time so long as you pick up the visa within one year. I just took a holiday over there to arrange things. It all worked out very nicely. remember to keep any email responses from the ministry if they back up you application.

I hope that is of some use.

Bob

Bob Thanks for your reply,
Going on your experiences, the advice given by the Agents Joy to Stay to Golfer is not accurate!
More confusion!

I can thoroughly recommend our agent Roselind of Alter Domus in Penang.  All the info given was spot on.  The process was easy and quick.  They were so helpful and professional.   Sure they were not the cheapest but as always in life, you get what you pay for.

If you have yet to officailly engage an agent then why not contact them?

Golfer

The part I am confused about is where your Agents Joy to Stay have advised you as follows. "We are both currently in jobs and our agent has advised us that 3 months worth of playslips will be fine, as long as the monthly income exceeds RM10,000, but the more the better"

Most couples coming from the UK would be able to meet this requirement, particularly if they are both still in work.    Assuming that we give up our jobs when we move to Malaysia then it seems strange that the MoTour will accept  this as proof of income while staying in Malaysia.( Great news if they do).

Do the Agents have experience of the being accepted before?

Like you I want to get it right first time if possible, so please let us know how you application goes

Hi Chaps,

I hope I havent made things any more confusing.

My experience was at a time when you didnt need a Fixed deposit, applications could be supported by earnings alone. That situation doesnt apply now so I am not sure where the requirement for payslips has come from. I was just sounding a word of caution when dealing with agents. My agent was one of the biggest and most expensive however they still managed to get it wrong (or at least delayed things a bit).

In regard to the payslips I would recommend making the query to Cindy Lim at motour. I am sure she will make evreything clear and possibly save some time for you.

I hope that helps.

Sorry for any previous confusion.

Regards

Bob

Hi MM2 homers,

Don't be too anxious for an approval. Comes easily, if your latest 3 months salary archieve RM10,000 with sufficient bank amount showing enough to support your living in Malaysia. Nobody will check your financial after obtaining the approval. I had mine very smoothly begining of this year, now enjoying driving my tax exempted Toyota Fortuner (very attractive $ saving) & 2nd home living in Sabah & West malaysia where/when ever i want.
Had mine application did through Sabah's agent, within 21 days during my days.

All the best to you guys.

hi,

I also found Cindy Lim to be helpful, and responsive.

As I understand it, the retirement bit of MM2H went out of the window a couple of years ago. Now it's the FD, cash in the bank, and income to support stay in Malaysia. If, at the time of application, you can show salary slips above RM10,000 then all well and good.

Subsequently, once the application is in, if you retire, get fired, are made redundant, change to a lower-paid job, then there's no current requirement to notify MoTour of the change of circumstances. And, during the course of the 10-year visa, there are no current requirements to confirm/notify MoTour of anything except for withdrawals from the FD.

Joy-Stay is correct on this. 3-months worth of payslips will suffice.

regards, Scott

hi, KS

Thanks for the post. What does the visa stamp in your passport say? Is it "permitted to remain in Sabah and West Malaysia" or is it "permitted to remain in West Malaysia and Sabah"

I'd really like to know this.

regards, Scott

What's the difference/significance Scott?
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

hi,

Thanks for the clarification KS.

The difference is that if it says, "permitted to enter and remain in Sabah and West Malaysia" then it's a Sabah MM2H application, and it applies.

If it says, "permitted to enter and remain in West Malaysia and Sabah" then it's a KL (or Peninsula) application and the Sabah bit doesn't apply.

Now we know. It's a relief.

regards,
Scott
