Holy Smoly, Bob, you speak a lot of languages!

Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year to all readers/contributors :) 8-)
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

Hi Fizzy & Jumping Jock,

It's amazing how many languages you can speak after a few drams.

Thanks for the Tagalog and Ilonggo , but I had already given you the Thai. Nice try though.

Where would they speak Illonggo? Paisley perhaps!

Yes but the Thai said merry Christmas and a happy new year  ;) so I thought I would just show the pure merry Christmas( สุขสันต์วันคริสตร์มาส) for the very few non Thai speakers

You obviously have not been to Glasgow recently as the SM2H (Scotland my 2nd Home) scheme has been successfully running for years along side the UKGMM ( United Kingdom Give Me Money) long term tourist initiative.

How about LAO - souksan van Christmas

I wonder who will be my first foot (you can explain it ha ha)

It's a fair point,

Being able to trace my heritage back to Black Olaf via the Gunn & Mackay clan the highlands will always be my ancestral home. A'dinnieken aboot they  Sassenach toons such as Glasgae and London yuud hae tae be a Windae-licker tae bide there.

Quote
An Englishman entered a bar and stood beside a Scotsman. After they had chatted for a while the Scot asked "Where are you from?" The Englishman replied "I'm from the finest country in the world." The Scot looked sceptical and replied "Are you? You have a damn funny accent for a Scotsman."

Quote
First-Footing, in British folklore, especially that of the north and Scotland, is the first person who crosses the threshold on New Year's Eve. Good luck is believed to be brought to the house by the First-Foot, and a female First-Foot is regarded with dread. In Lancashire a light-haired man is as unlucky as a woman, and it became a custom for a dark-haired male to be the one and only first-foot. In Worcestershire luck is ensured by stopping the first carol-singer who appears and leading him through the house. In Yorkshire it must always be a male who enters the house first, but his fairness is no objection. The first-foot usually brings a gift of coal and salt. The coal representing "warmth" for the year ahead and the salt representing "flavour". In Scotland first-footing was always more elaborate than in England, involving a subsequent entertainment.

I hope my first foot is Gwen Stephanie, bugger the folklore!

A Scotsman walking through a field, sees a man drinking water from a pool with his hand.
The Scotsman man shouts ' Awa ye feel hoor thatâs full Oâ coos Sharn'
(Don't drink the water, it's full of cow s ** t.)
The man shouts back 'I'm English, Speak English, I don't understand you'.
The Scotsman man shouts back 'Use both hands, you'll get more in.'

Well I bide 25 miles North of Aberdeen and try not to go to the deep south of Glasgow

and a dram to the first person who can guess my occupation

Hi JJ

You'll be a forester then or a monk at Deer Abbey.

I am truly envious, a fine life you have.

Quote
The owner of a hunting lodge in Scotland presented his gamekeeper with a

fur cap, of the sort having ear flaps. When at the lodge the following

year, the gentleman asked the gamekeeper how he liked the cap. The keeper

shook his head dolefully."I've nae worn it since the accident."

"What accident was that?" his employer demanded. "I've heard of none."

"A mon offered me a dram, and I heard naething of it."

Cheers

Hi JJ

A dram of anything from your area would be most welcome. Although I fear it will be some time before I can take up your invitation as we are off to live in Penang as soon as our house is sold.

You seem to have some links with Thailand , did you live there at some time?
