Application approved
« on: December 13, 2007, 09:18:42 PM »
Hello all,
We got the news last night that our MM2H application was approved and wish to thank the forum members for their help and contributions, and for making our application a whole lot easier. According to our agent, she submitted our application on the 13th of November and it was approved on the 3rd of December, which I think is pretty slick. It seems to take a while for the news to trickle through from the actual approval point, but tbh we didn't expect to hear anything until January at the earliest anyway. We're really chuffed.

Hi Brian, we went with your "all the stamps and certification you can get can only be good" advice, and really loaded up on the documents. Thanks.

Hi Qjumper, I hit up my Bank for a 'confirmation of balance' letter which, surprisingly, they forwarded to me 2 weeks later. They also sent a 6 monthly 'official' statement along with it, which was a bonus, so I was able to submit that too. Thanks.

Our agent drove us to get our medical this morning and we also signed up for a FD account with OCBC @ 3.7%. I think I might have been able to squeeze a little more elsewhere, but their mortgage packages are fairly flexible so we went with them. We just have to wait now for our funds to arrive from the UK regarding the FD and we should be set to endorse. We cancelled our Panama flights already.

A special thanks to Scott for a much appreciated and worthwhile effort on a great website.

'gards;
Tahoma.

Congratulations. Which agent did you use? Are they on the web? How much did they charge?

hi, Tahoma,

That's great news and a lovely Christmas present. It seems to be about 20 days so that's super-fast.

Maybank and CIMB are also both offering 3.7% so selecting a bank on the basis of appropriate mortgage packages is a good idea.

regards, Scott

Hi Scott,
Yes indeed, Christmas has come early. Mrs Tahoma gave birth to a baby girl last Thursday too, so we're really on a roll. I might buy a lottery ticket tomorrow, lol.

Hi Sukhi.
Thanks. We applied through Promotevest, and they are on the web here;  http://promotevest.com/

Hi Tahoma,

Congratulations on both counts, little Tahoma first of course.

Please buy me a lottery ticket too as I could do with some luck.

Which part of the country do you intend to settle in?

Bob

Hi Scott and other MM2Hers out there

Finally picked up our visa before Xmas so just wanted to update you on the process in Putrajaya, as we experienced it, which is a bit different to what I had previously read on the website, ie Brian's experience below:

"Had a bite of lunch after this in KLCC and then headed for Putrajaya. In and out in 35 minutes!! Hard to believe but all went smoothly. Go to level 3 take a ticket ( mention MM2H) and then go directly to counter 9. We payed our fees and then we were directed to an "executive lounge" where we were presented with our passports with the visa attached"

At Level 3 we had to Q up with everyone else to get a ticket, this took about 20mins as the person handing out the tickets grills people a bit before sending them off with the ticket, there was a big Q too already at 9AM and so no special treatment for MM2H.  Then we had to wait about 40 mins for our number to be called at counter 9.  handed over documents and waited again another 20 - 30 mins before returning to pay money at a different counter. a further 15 mins and we were given our passports. no visit to the executive lounge for us. The whole process took about 2 hours I would say.

I also enquired about extending the visas for the children (who only have a 5 year passport) and was told definitely that this can only be done at Putrajaya, not at any immigration office as I had read previously on this site.

So the procedure seems to change regularly, but glad it is out of the way now. Enjoying life in Penang and there is another MM2H family now staying at our condo here (near Gurney) whom I was able to contact via this chatline. We were able to put them in touch with the owner of an appartment here so they didnt have to go through an agent, saves a months rent.

cheers to all and good luck to those waiting.  Just back from 4 days in Thailand courtesy Firefly airline.

cheers

Tombo

Congrats on picking up the visa, and many thanks for the update. It's also nice to know that you're in touch with someone via the site.

Well done Tombo. At least the 'hassle' is over now for the next 4 and a half years or so.

Our experience on renewing our boys visa last July (as mentioned on this forum already) was very quick and slick with no queuing at all (not even for a number)...just went straight to window 9 and where dealt with immediately!

All of this is illustrative of TIM (This Is Malaysia). One day it is this way and the next day it is that way, and no one can ever explain why other than 'it's just the folk you meet that day'!!

All four of us are due to renew in July for another 5 years (self done).....will no doubt post our experiences as they happen!
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.
