Medical Insurance "Rejection Letter"
« on: October 07, 2011, 09:29:50 PM »
Hello
We have received the MM2H Approval of application. (We are both over 61)  Now the question regarding health insurance. We have medical insurance in Switzerland covering also emergency cases worldwide, but only for max 190 days. We will only get the actual "International Policy" covering medical/hospital expenses in Malaysia for the whole time of staying there once we have definitely left Switzerland.
Only than we can get a confirmation of the Swiss health insurance for coverage "Worldwide" - which seems to be requested by MM2H.
Should we better opt for a "Rejection Letter" of a Malaysian insurance company and have people had experience that this was accepted when endorsing the passports.

Many thanks
Roland

hi, rotesti,

Congrats on the approval.

I have a reject letter from Kurnia. I asked for it, and got it. I was here in Malaysia.

I guess you've already looked at : How does an Over 60 get a Medical Insurance "Rejection Letter"? and Waiver for Medical Insurance

Also look at this : DIY Success: Thank you, all, for your help!  Look at the first post by Azka (12 Oct 2010) and you'll see this line which I've highlighted in blue on the post, "Our CLA required us to submit a Medical Certificate, a Security Bond, and Medical Insurance (we decided to go for a Rejection Email, instead--which I had obtained before coming to Malaysia).

Whatever you use it probably needs to be in English or Malay or some acceptable language. Or a translation.

Rejection letters can be issued because of previous medical conditions as well as age.

Why don't you plan on doing both and see how it goes.

How about asking the Swiss company for a letter of undertaking that the insurance will be in place once you're full-time in Malaysia and use this together with the current insurance policy.

Also start trying to get rejection letters. Try emails to Malaysian insurance companies.

Also I remember from your previous posts that you said you were using a KL agent. Then ask the agent to get a reject letter for each of you. If the agent has any standing then the agent will have plenty of insurance contacts for this matter.

It doesn't have to be either one or the other until you're standing in front of the immigration desk.

If I can dig out other posted information I'll add it in here.

Since you can get the MM2H residence with a rejection letter, I would suggest to go for that regardless of your insurance situation. I think that is the most strightforward and easy option.

If you later (or now), decide to have some sort of insurance or not, is irrelevant to the MM2H status.

Hi Roland

Congrats on the approval.

After a long delay, we finally did ours through an agent.  All the infos here are for West Malaysia which will be very helpful for me if we are gonna base in W. Malaysia. But we will retire in Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia. I can't get enough info on E.M so my husband says used an agent and ease the headaches.  Our agent submitted our applications a week ago.

The drawback is the Medical Insurance. We also submitted copies of our International card. Ours from the company is covered INTERNATIONAL but our agent says MM2H will not accept unless it says WORLDWIDE.  Now my thinking is: if I provide them with proof of copies of bills paid by the medical insurance from different Asian countries inclusive of Malaysia, will they accept this?  Since hubby is still working and we won't live in Malaysia until he retired, if our medical card is not accepted, then we will go for the 'Rejection Letter'.

Scott, I hope E.M. is as lenient as W.M to accept an email copy of the Rejection Letter.

Oh, just about to post my comment when I read Gunnar's reply.  You and Scott are right, when we get our CLA, I will go for the 'rejection letter' regardless of our insurance situation.  Save the headache!

Thanks & Regards
concy

hi,

The difference between International and Worldwide was discussed some time ago. I'll try and find the post as I was looking for it earlier this year.

On reflection from my earlier post above, I also think that the reject is the way to go for Rotesti because immigration will check the date of the insurance on the assumption that it applies from the date of the visa. However Rotesti is looking for the insurance to kick-in later when here full-time.

I think that any agent would be able to get rejection letters as part of the whole visa process.

Some posts on various insurance threads mention that insurance companies will insure up to 65 or 70.

What isn't clear is that in many situations the requirement is to already possess the insurance as a below 61 year old, and then the insurance is allowed to run up to older ages.

I was told this several times from various insurance agents. If you're on their books before 61 then you can carry on paying increased premiums till you're 65 or 70 or whatever.

As mentioned, it is not at what age you are allowed to be insured which is of importance here, it is the easiest legal way to get the MM2H.
So, if you can get an accpetable letter of rejection when 60+, I would recommend going with that.
And in parallell or later arrange for whatever insurance you want (or can obtain)

Hello to everybody
I also think we'll go for the rejection letter as our Health Insurance company is reluctant to confirm "WORLDWIDE"  .
