Re: MM2h Medical - Adventist Hospital Penang
« Reply #15 on: February 04, 2010, 04:14:45 PM »
News from the frontline - and more surprises today  ::)  Went along bright and early to Adventist for our scheduled appointment for the "simple medical", did height, weight and blood pressure and they then mentioned about.... blood tests, x-rays  :(  We queried it, of course, but they said that was the deal for MM2H.  Their argument (and I can understand it) was that on page 2 of the MM2H medical form (form RB II) they have to confirm whether we have or haven't got diabetes or aids or heart disease.  So we ended up having the tests and x-rays and then find the nearest ATM as it came to RM 190 each for the medical plus RM 11 each for registration fees.

Wish you'd told us about the Loh Guan Lye hospital yesterday Mr Stuurman  :'(  So did they just tick the boxes for aids, diabetes, heart disease without check?  Or maybe these items weren't on the RB II form before?

Sorry lah, just saw your post today.
We filled in page 2 ourself ;), doctor asked if it was all true and we said yes.
After that he chopped and signed the papers.

I believe any clinic in Penang could have filled out the required forms for abut 50MYR. I remember when I had mine done the doctor took by BP and asked me questions regarding diabetes, kidney disease and my medical history. Very straight forward.

Some may remember I brought up the subject of the medical, as I experienced it, on a recent other thread.

I think this needs to be emphasised more by all Agents and this Forum.

The downloaded form is very clear to me...part 1 should be filled by the applicant and signed as a declaration.
The Doctor signs part 2 and is NOT signing that he has checked for all those diseases.
He/she only signs that the form is filled and that you LOOK in good health.

I had the same discussion with the 2nd Doctor I used, approved by Joy-Stay.
He was surprised that I had ticked all the boxes...he said he normally does that.
I showed him the instructions on the form and told him I'm ex-military...I only follow rules!!!

He laughed, looked at my age (I'm 72), pronounced me alive and signed..... O0
Motour did not even question the medical form...all they cared was the FD from the bank.

After all, if I get sick, it is NOT their liability. If necessary, they can authorize the FD to be used for medical attention.

Yes the form could be clearer.  We filled in Part I and II exactly as it says but the Doc says we shouldn't have.  Like you Davita we just did what it said.

Anyhow, no matter, we went to the wrong place, it cost money, but had a good check up and it's a bonus when one of you has grown 1 centimetre  ???

hi,

The
Yes the form could be clearer.  We filled in Part I and II exactly as it says but the Doc says we shouldn't have.  Like you Davita we just did what it said.

The "doc" is wrong. These folks don't know about the mm2h medical although they all say that they do. They don't bother to recognise the difference between mm2h and the more stringent medical requirements for foreign workers. And why should they, RM190 is a better earner than RM30.

Still, sometimes getting it done is worth more than not getting it done.  ::)  And who is going to put these ignorant doctors straight anyway?

Maybe the answer is to go to a clinic rather than a hospital. Dunno.  8-)

I filled in my form and went to a clinic and pointed at the bit where the doctor signs and got it signed. Guess it's just luck.

And, hey, being 1cm taller is worth something.  ~12~

Congrats Papaya on the progress.

I think it's pot luck unless you get a recommendation and I should've doubled-checked with Mr Stuurman  ~52~  Davita I think went to a clinic first and got no luck there.  We just ran out of time in the end so had to go with Adventist but at least we passed the Med so all is okay.

hi,

I have my own experiences of the "abandon hope all who enter here" situation. Thick doctor. Hope he/she knows the difference between veins and arteries as it's harder than understanding the mm2h health form.

I now have the form in front of me. Underneath MEDICAL REPORT OF APPLICANT it says, "Reminder : Part 1 AND 11 IS TO BE COMPLETED BY THE APPLICANT."

The 3rd part is for the doctor. It says, "I have this day examined . . . passport number . . .  and certify that :

Tick Box : He/she is not suffering from any disease and is healthy.
Tick Box: He/she is not very healthy but is not suffering from any contageous or infectious disease.
Tick Box : He/she is not healthy and is suffering from contageous or infectious disease which makes his/her presence dangerous to the community.
Tick box : He/she is not healthy and unfir for a long distance travel and chances of recovery is very slim.

As the doctor wants blood tests and refers to aids etc. he's lumping mm2h with foreign workers tests. The RB11 form doesn't require the doctor to test for any disease at all. As previously posted, the doctor merely confirms a visual examination.

On a logical argument, if the doctor needs to test for diabetes then why not also test for arthritis, or dementia, or post natal depression, or a few syndromes?   8-)

And if it is up to the doctor to decide on which tests, as none are stated on RB11, then he can easily decide on none and follow the form.

Yep, pot luck. But you should feel better that you passed    8-)   and maybe others need to by-pass the Adventist Penang and Gleneagles Penang until their doctors learn to read.

There is clearly more going on here than can be deduced from the [very stupid] medical form.  A reliable source tells me that "you will be disqualified if you have an infectious disease or HIV/AIDS."

Hence the blood test.  The hospitals and clinics know that their report has to include it, even if it is not made clear to the applicants.

I was so convinced that I would have to have such a test that I have had one in Bkk to make sure I pass when I visit Malaysia for Endorsement.  No sense in falling at the last fence!

I never had a blood test, nor do I know anyone who was required to have one. Strange.

Steve, perhaps that was some time ago?

My info is up-to-date and Papaya's experience has confirmed it in the last few days.  We know we cannot always trust the forms or Motour instructions on the website in a number of areas, as has been well-aired here over the past few months, and perhaps this is just another example.

hi,

All foreign workers coming into Malaysia are required by Immigration to have a medical which costs about RM180 ++ and includes a blood test for HIV. The form used is NOT the RB11.

MM2H applicants are not required to have any blood tests and are treated as "tourists" rather than "foreign workers."

However as I see things if anyone wishes to exceed the minimum MM2H requirements they are free to do so. And if doctors/clinics/hospitals are ignorant of the MM2H medical requirements that's their problem. Or if doctors/hospitals/clinics wish to set their own MM2H medical requirements then clients are free to accept or decline.

However, it doesn't  mean that the requirements have changed. They haven't.

2 hours ago I walked into a clinic on my way to this cybercafe (computer problems). I showed the receptionist the RB11 form and asked how much for the doctor to sign and stamp it. I was told RM30 and it would take 2 minutes.

The RB11 form doesn't require any blood tests. No blood tests, or any tests, are needed to be enclosed with the form. There is no minimum physical examination set by the form.

A visual examination is as acceptable as a thousand-test stripped-to-the-bone CAT-scan keep-in-for-observation fully-blown 100 page report.   ~44~

I had my medical check up last March and no blood test was involved.
I understand a private hospital rather sells you a complete medical
checkup then simply sign a form for a few RM but as far as I know
it's not required.
