Longish term hotel stay
« on: September 27, 2007, 12:45:47 AM »
My wife and I plan to rent for 6-12 months probably in Penang before buying a property.

When we initially come over we'll look to stay in a hotel for 4 weeks (hopefully this will be long enough to find somewhere to rent and sort out the paperwork for the 6-12 month rental period)

I'm trying to plan approximate costings and don't have a clue how much it will be to stay in a hotel for the estimated 4 weeks, can anyone give me a rough guide (weekly or daily) as to what I should expect to pay (or what they negotiated) if I stayed in a 3/4* hotel.

I have been told that much better rates can be negotiated for longer stays?

Or if anyone has a better suggestion to staying in a hotel or an alternative solution I'd love to hear it!

Many thanks
Paul (UK)

Try this link of PenangProperty:
http://www.penangproperties.com/holiday_apartment.htm

My friend from the UK bought a condo in Batu Ferringhi and comes only twice a yr. She's not renting hers, but she did say some Brits she met at eating places in B.F. in similar situation were looking for short term renters. You might get to know some if you stay in that area.

Thanks for the information / web link BB. I can't image that a hotel will be cheaper than these short term apartment rentals. I'll need to contact them to find out whether things like bedding will be provided.

It does seem to be a great alternative to a long stay in a hotel, and certainly will offer us a bit more space  :)

I've just checked and they even provide bedding! etc, this seems like the perfect solution. Thanks again.
