hi, Shirely,

Like fcs, I don't think there's much chance of a refund. Just stay and get your money's worth.

regards, Scott

hi, Shirely,

My impression is that MoTour and Immigration simply haven't gotten together and tried to work out a common approach and policy. And then, step-by-step, work out each regulation and requirement, and think about the implications.

Oh well, that's part of the attraction of living here. Some things are fluid, and sometimes it's an advantage.

regards, Scott

Hi Scott,

You are right. But don't you think it is ridiculous that we holding a valid visa in an expired passport later?

Cheers,
Shirley.

There are many things about living here that would appear to defy logic. If you let such things bother you, it may detract from the very enjoyable experience.
If one gets hung up on principals of right & wrong this place will perpetually bother you.
Example: the majority of people would love to see corruption dealt a fatal blow as it is endemic in society, some would describe it as a cancer.
However when we get stopped for a traffic offense (a common one is speeding) where the compound fine is RM300 we readily fork out RM50 to 'settle on the spot'!

The RM50 never goes further that the Policeman's pocket.

Now who has committed the greatest wrong. You for agreeing to 'settle' on the spot knowing what will happen or the Policeman for taking the bribe???
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

Hi Shirley,

I agree with you. Although this is probably a case of poor organisation rather than one of policy.

When I fed back some criticisms of the motour website they were addressed and the problem resolved. I wonder if this is a similar case. Perhaps all members should make the point to motour about the visa payments and perhaps then the procedure will be amended.
As motour seem to be using a better management model for MM2H these days I'll bet they have a channel for official complaints. If so we should use it.

I don't subscribe to the theory that Malaysia can never change. Although I do think that we all need a lot of patience.

BTW I hope Molly and I will get to meet you both when we make the move to Penang.

Regards

Bob

Hi Bob,

I am not complaining..just only my thoughts.I know how Malaysia government worked.I was wondering they still haven't changed much since so many years I left Malaysia..it was the same and now also the same.
Hope to meet you as well.Keep in touch.Planned to move back by end of 2008 if everything run smoothly.

Cheers,
Shirley.

Shirley/Brian,
I attended the Expat Expo in KL over the weekend, and during one of the presentations it was clearly stated that when your 10 year visa is granted if you passport expires in 4 years a visa for 4 years will be placed in your passport and your will pay 4X90 RM. When you get your new passport your will get a new visa for the balance and pay the outstanding amount at that time (no 4 years earlier). This is exactly how I understood ti to be and exactly how I explained it earlier in this thread, but somehow it was ignored presumably on the basis that we are on the 5 year not the 10 year visa. However it seems the principals remain the same!

Hope this helps
FCS

Hi FCS,

I think the principals might remain the same but it is actually practice which seems to differ. When you are there you just want to get your visa and get out!! I guess a good idea would be to renew your passport before you go to get your visa so you get your 10 years.

Cheers

Brian

Indeed that is a very sensible idea unless your passport still has six seven or eight years to run - Renewing passports is not as cheap an exercise these days as it was some years ago!!
