Hi Shirley,

Did you note the phrase on the bottom "SERVICE WITH A SMILE"

I think this translates in Hokkien as "Seoh Cheoh" (forgive the spelling).

Did you also notice that you pay for the ten years up front. I didn't know that.

Regards

Bob

Prepayment has always been the case, be it one, five or ten years. It's not a huge amount (even when multiplied by 4 for me the wife and boys), and then you don't need to bother again for the duration
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

Hi Bob,

Yes, I noticed that" service with a smile" this isnt shown the face!
Don't we pay for the years of left in our passport? Like say, if my passport expire in 2012 then will pay for only 4 years? then will continue 6 years when I get my newpassport? Do we have to prepay all ten years visa payment? I didnt notice in the letter.will see later.
Cheers,
Shirley.

Yes Shirley you are correct. The limit will be determined by the number of years you passport has left to run, and you pay the relevant  amount. If you had a new passport then theoretically you would get a 10 year visa (if that is what you applied for) and you would be expected to pay RM900 per person.
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

Hi Shirley,

To be honest I am not sure what the situation is. As you will see the letter indicates that you pay for ten years in advance. It makes no mention of just paying for the years remaining on your passport.

Possibly someone who has just collected thier visa could clear this up for us.

Bob

Hi Shirley,

The validity of the applicants passport is mentioned in 2.4 so I think you are right about the payment required.

Sorry I missed this before.

hi,

Maybe someone with a recent "Approval Letter" can delete the personal info and post the letter.

Hi Bob,

I read the letter all over again.I found this in 2.4..
The duration of Social Visit Pass (10 years ) is granted subjected to the validity of the applicant's passport. That means?

HI,

We picked up our visas last week. I had 9 years 2 months left in my passport and my wife had 9 years 9 months left in hers. However, the dates of the visas expire at exactly the same time - the length of the life of MY passport. We still paid RM900 each. My reading of the section on payment is that you pay the ten year visa cost no matter how long is left in your passport. I could be wrong of course but I am guessing that when you need to change your passport you will get the new visa for the years that have not been used in the original visa without any further cost.

Cheers

Brian

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your post. But then after we got our new passport ,we still have to go to the immigration office again to get the visa. Why should we prepay the payment? that I don't understand.

Cheers,
Shirley.

Seems like the rules have changed again!!!!!
Last time my wife and I got a 5 year visa but the boys only got 4 years as their passports were expiring during the fifth year.
We only paid RM360 for them each but RM450 each for ourselves.
That was almost four and a half years ago!!

I guess if you have to pre-pay now for a 10 year visa even though your passport is expiring sooner than that it is because they are granting you a 10 year visa. However they can't/won't put a 10 year visa in you passport if the actual passport expires after say seven or eight years. That would be pointless. I presume the 'paperwork' says your application for a 10 year visa has been successful or some such words!

In other words Having grant you a 10 year visa they want payment up front.  Why not....they can do what they like, and let's not forget that the Malaysian Govts objective in having this scheme is not philanthropic!

Thanks Brian,

Thanks for the update, we now know the score. I wonder what happens if you decide to leave the program part way through, I wonder if there would be any repayment ;D

You can leave anytime you like. That's the whole purpose of the Visa.
How would you phrase it...."I am leaving and never coming back....so can I have my money back please!"

Some how I think that once the money is paid that is it!
