Ha Ha

Those are wonderful words of comfort!
Nat laughed when I told her what you wrote and then told me not to keep over reacting when I read that prices are going up in Malaysia...

It does put eveything into context

Thanks again for the info

Paul

hi,

There's some more on this with the posts at : Inflation Rate - Malaysia.

FCS has a somewhat different view to mine.

As with any locality you shop around and find things where you like both cost and quality. Down the hill from my place is a great Malay coffee stall. Normally Malay coffee is weak, too thinned out for my taste, but this place has it just right, thick and unsweetened. A 1/2 pint of the stuff costs 50 sen, that's 7p.

With the current oil price hovering around US$100 per barrel petrol prices are a bit of a worry, but that's everywhere. Two months ago the Malaysian government undertook to keep the petrol subsidy unchanged until at least January 2008. And Malaysia is a net exporter of oil. And there's a general election coming soon.

regards, Scott

I am not sure we are disagreeing Scott. I know as well as the next person that the relative cost of living & the quality, variety and price of eating out here is hard to beat. However the prices over your way provide significantly better value that many such places in KL.

The other thread is more about 'Inflation rates', and although 10 sen is hardly worth bending down to pick off the floor it is actually a 10% increase on you price of your loaf.
Equally the rice and three veg at RM2.60 is a keener price than I have ever see over here in the Capital but the price increase is almost 8%.

So back to my real point, and that is more to do with what the Govt state and what happens in reality regarding inflation rates.
The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

Hi Scott and Fizzy et al

I arrived in Malaysia yesterday after two delayed flights and a mad dash to try to get into KL past all the road blocks...that was fun  >:(

Over the next three weeks I am going to put all the information you have provided to good use and do as much research as possible first hand.

Cheers

Paul

hi, Paul,

Welcome to Malaysia, and the biggest political demonstration in 10 years. Hope everything goes well, and please keep posting as time allows.

Hi Paul,
Sorry I can't arrrange to meet up with you whilst you are in KL. I drove up to Phuket on Sunday and will be here playing a fair amount of golf and of course imbibing in lots of the culture over the next two weeks........you know visiting temples and all that stuff!!

Hi All,

Finally got to window 9 to pick up my visa yesterday. All went smoothly but wasnt invited to the VIP lounge.

Only one thing to report. The charge visa charge is pro-rata and not for the whole ten years. So only had to pay for the 6 years remaing in my passport. Richard Ong the insurance guy is very helpful and informative. He seems to be interested in becoming an agent but was surprised at the high fees. I said if he can charge less he should apply for the bond.

All the best

Bob
