Looking to find good Air Travel deals in and around South East Asia (West Pacific Rim)

Are the Internet agents Expedia, Orbits etc good or are there "Local" agent deals like the good old days in the 80's which I am not finding.

The Big WEB site prices look higher than I would have expected for the distances involved. 

I have read the threads and tails about Air Asia. It would appear that one would not want to use them if there was a connecting international flight.

I was one of those who posted bad things about Air Asia and although I had been warned previously I booked a flight from Penang to Chiangmai. It turned out a disaster.

However if you are flying point to point with no onward transfer they really seem to be good. All the facilities you would find with bigger airlines are there and the aircraft are modern and clean.

Certainly when looking for good deals on flights you should at least have a look at their website. They have the usual offerings of "fly to anywhere in the world fo MYR10" but once you have got past this and look at the real cost the savings on other airlines are real.

You can also get good deals with MAS, especially with advance booking.

Other cheap deals are provided by NOC and Bangkok Air in Thailand.

Unless you specifically want to deal with an agent I would always go straight to the airline.
