How long to get a visa Extension?
« on: September 02, 2010, 10:09:46 AM »
Hi

Next week we are going to pick up our new passport, so we have to get an extension
of our current visa which is still valid for a couple of years.

In the pdf document with all procedures from the MM2H- website it states:
The extension process takes approximately 3 days
Is this true? I had the impression from some people who did it you could just walk in
and get the extension on the spot.

regards, Paul

Yes I thought that too.  I'm sure there's some postings on here about it but not sure where to look.  I've got to renew my passport at year end too so I'll be pleased to hear your experience.  Was only banking on spending a day or two in KL so may have to re-think that.

hi,

There's a March 2010 post by hwo at : Renewal in KL : some points to note

Maybe extensions and renewals have the same time frame.

If anyone has some up-to-date info please post.

I called Yvonne Lim (Joy-stay) and she confirmed extensions could be done on
the spot. Th 3 day period mentioned in the pdf refers to renewals according to
her.

Another thing, it seems the the computer systems at the immigration office at
PWTC are in disorder. She advised to call them before going down.

She also said the extension had to bo done in KL PWTC and could not be done
anymore at the Penang immigration office.

We have been running to Immig in Pg fairly frequently because of our passports expiry dates.
Mine expires 13 June next year 2011 (already has 3 MM2H Renewal Pages). Mr BB's expiring 28 June 2012 (has 2 MM2H Renewal Pages).

(sigh)...that's not really good for those of us living in Penang  :(

hi,

Thanks stuurman. I also contacted Yvonne, via email, and got pretty much the same response so here it is :

Quote
For the MM2H visa extension application, the new visa would be given on the same day provided all documents are complete. And of course, provided the system at the Immigration is not down, they were having some problem with the system this couple of days especially for those who are applying for extension.

The Checklist below is for Extension of MM2H visa (Change of Passport) :

1) Letter of Intent.
2) Original of Old & New Passports.
3) Copy of Old & New Passports.
4) IM.12 Form.
5) Copy & Original of FD Certificate.
6) Copy & Original of Conditional Approval Letter,

Your Letter of Intent should be addressed to :

MALAYSIA MY SECOND HOME CENTRE
IMMIGRATION UNIT
Ministry of Tourism Malaysia
Level 6,Menara Dato’ Onn, PutraWorld Trade Centre (PWTC)
50695 Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA
Tel: 03-2696-3321/02/25

Perhaps if any members have been to the MM2H Centre recently they can let us know the situation.

Contacting the info@mm2h.gov.my email is pretty much a wait long, long, and even longer. I've got 1 email from 3 weeks ago and still waiting. Faster to get a coach to KL, and go ask.

To add to the above she sent me this email:

Dear Paul,

I just managed to talk to the immigration officer, Encik Hadi, at PWTC, he already confirmed that MM2H extensions can not be done in state immigration departments.

All extensions must be done at either PWTC or Putrajaya.

Hope the above is clear. Thank you.
Best Regards,

YVONNE LIM
Managing Director

So it looks like a definite nono

Looks like since Cindy Lim isn't working there anymore their response time went up.
To bad she is gone, she most of the times responded within a day, and with good
answers to my questions.

On the bright side Yvonne Lim is very well informed and always happy to answer
questions and queries made by her clients. Even after we got the visa I get fast
and informative responses.

That's good after sales, another reason I'm happy I choose her as our visa-agent.

Update: Another phonecall from Yvonne. It seems that the machine that prints the visa at PWTC is broken.
Repairs are expected on Monday.

We got a transfer onto a new passport in Feb 2010. Went to PWTC and it took about half an hour. We bought the documents as requested on the website. All very straightforward.

Trouble at PWTC getting Visa Extension to new passport!
« Reply #11 on: September 08, 2010, 10:22:10 PM »
I went there today, and they could not transfer my current visa to my new passport.

Oddly/ironically or perhaps not surprisingly the guy who dealt with me did not have a very good command of English, and simply said the system was not working/was being 'upgraded' - I guess a face saving way of saying it was broken!!! He suggested I come back tomorrow (can you imagine!!) or Monday.

Needless to say I will be doing neither!

I could write another few pages on the procedure he put me through, whilst he didn't really understand what my requirement was, despite me clearly describing my needs, and presenting him with my old passport opened at the current visa page, along with my new passport!!

I have just checked.....there is no smiley with steam coming out of its ears!

The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

hi,

Sorry to read about that FCS.

Another thing, it seems the the computer systems at the immigration office at
PWTC are in disorder. She advised to call them before going down.

Is this the same problem? If it is then it's been going on for several days.

Wonder if it's the machine or human over working during this past month ???
Personally I think they should still maintain the few regional Immig Offices for MM2Hers to get the Extension eg Pg. I would dread that drive down south and be told machine is not working again, come back tomorrow or few days later! For a mere couple hours of simple procedure for getting the new extension page it's a long drive to and fro and hotel stay most probably :(
Doesn't sound like retired life's getting any more relaxing with the unnecessary trips ::)

I've just written a feedback to MMh2 requesting them to revert back to using the few regional immig offices eg Pg and Johore for Renewal and Extensions for the sake of MM2H retirees. Hope they will read my feedback that I sent in the official website :-\

Just to feedback, I also went to PWTC yesterday, and got my MM2H visa with no problem. Yvonne Lim was there also, and she seemed to guide them through what was needed to be done.

Anyway, the machine worked fine, and I am the proud owner of an MM2H sticker in my passport.......at last.

Regards.
