Tourists who cause trouble whilst in Malaysia!
« on: September 04, 2007, 10:17:30 AM »
Interesting article in todays NST: http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Monday/National/20070903081323/Article/index_html

KUALA LUMPUR: A New Straits Times photographer sustained minor injuries when he was assaulted by a tourist in Jalan Bukit Bintang on Saturday night.
Ghazali Bujang, 40, who was on assignment, claimed an Arab man in his 40s hit the back of his head and grabbed him.

The man was unhappy that the photographer had taken shots of him and his family watching a rehearsal of the KL International Tattoo in front of Lot 10.

"I was taking pictures when someone tried to grab my camera. A man shouted at me in English and Arabic that I had taken pictures of him and his family without consent."

Ghazali said he injured a finger on his left hand as he struggled to hold on to his camera.
He deleted three pictures of the man and his family but the man was not satisfied and hit him on the head before fleeing.

Police later detained the man before taking him to Dang Wangi police headquarters, where his statement was recorded.

Ghazali also lodged a report.

Why so sensitive I wonder?

The trouble with taking the ‘middle of the road’ position is that you get run over from both directions.

Hi FCS

As you probably know during the summer months of July-October KL and most of the beach resorts are filled with Middle Easterners. In KL it is like being in Jeddah or Riyadh around the city centre. Many of these used to go to America but for obvious reasons they don't feel welcome there. The problem is that a large number of these people believe that locals have to adopt "their" point of view of the world. I cannot repeat on this site the comments of some of the Chinese Taxi drivers about the "Arabs" as I would get banned from using it. Indeed, I have had a few bad experiences with these tourists who often are very arrogant and treat the locals like trash.

The Malaysian Government obviously want these people here for the economy. What they have not contrasted it with is the effect it has having on tourism from other parts of the world - especially China- which has dropped alarmingly.

Cheers

Brian
