Marriage Certificate in Oz vs Malaysia
« on: August 01, 2010, 10:48:05 AM »
Has come to the time when I should formalise the long-term relationship with my partner and obtain a marriage certificate (I'm Australian, she Vietnamese). We are both currently resident in Malaysia on work visas, and may ultimately go the MM2H route. Anyone here had a good look at the pros & cons of going through the process in Malaysia versus Oz? Seems as similar documentation required in both cases, but am wondering about the actual process itself, which is less hassle free?

An added complication with using a marriage celebrant in Oz it that we would need to obtain an Australian tourist visa for my Vietnamese partner.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks.

I am in the process of trying to do the same thing here in Malaysia with my Filipina Fiance.

The Malaysian side is very straight forward, but due to the Philippines having such a bad reputation vis a vis forged documents, the procedure for a filipina has been a nightmare for us.

Basically, although we have duly signed and stamped documents from the Ministry in Philippines, (Certificate of No Impediment)  the Registrar requires that these are certified by the Philippine Embassy in KL. That is fine and understandable.

However, when we took the documents to the PI Embassy, they said "we don't know if these documents are genuine. You will have to go back to the Philippines to get them certified by ANOTHER Ministry"

When I said to them, well how will you know that the new certification that certifies that the original certification is genuine??? There comment was...don't be clever!!

What can you say.

No idea where it will end, but I am sure that it can't be that bad with Vietnam. Good luck anyway.

Regards

Ken
