Hi jac,

The government is looking for health insurance and it is very expensive and very hard to get if you are over 60. However if you can get a rejection for an insurance company because you are over 60, the Government has in the past waived that requirement.

hi, jac,

You are probably doing this but have a look at the Tokio Marine thread. It's basic insurance for mm2h purposes. Ask about the premium plus the loading. And make sure that they clearly understand that you are not Malaysian or a PR.

Tokio Marine

The folks that I know got the insurance within 1 week and that was from Perak.

If you are contacting Malaysian based companies the figures will be in RM, and are usually yearly premiums.

We managed to obtain medical cover - complete with policy documents to satisfy the ministry - within  a few hours of collecting our MM2H conditional approval letter from our agent Joy-stay.

When we later told our Malaysian friends they said that the company concerned is not one which Malaysians use as their are always problems with making any claim.  That is not so good but as it meant we were able to secure the visa it served our purpose and once we relocate we will look for a better arrangement.

Has anyone got the letter from Chartis about the Ringitt Net policy.

Basically they are are going to load it for one year at 50% and then discontinuing. Their promise to continue cover until the age of 100 has been revoked.

Nice eh!

hi, qjumper,

Bummer.  So much for undertakings.   :-\

The news of Ringgit Net being no longer available to new policies was on the forum some time back. Ringgit Net was issued by AIG so I guess it fell to bankrupcy, was rescued by the taxpayer somewhere, got sold off.

Another guess is that now there's no new policies being issued there's no reason, other than integrity, to keep it going.

We got a new Health Insurance via Mr Ong at Poly Travels to replace the Ringgit Net one. They offer up to 60 years, and then only renewal till 65 as far as I can figure it out.

It's called  "Safe & Smart"
The premium(age 51 - 55) for plan 1 = RM456.00/Year
Plan 2 = RM673.00/year
Plan 3 = RM904.00/year.

You can choose either one.

We took it to stay in compliance with MM2H regulations, but haven't had the need to use it. So can't tell how good it is.

For more info you can contact Mr. Ong through his website. [ed : link removed]

Hi Steph,

Thanks for the info. Actually I spoke to Mr Ong a few minutes before I saw you post. He is looking into it for me and I will post what his findings. He did say that at the moment all insurance in Malaysia is restricted to 65 years. That will be a big problem for MM2h as I expect many people would be unhappy living here without any health cover.

Regards

hi, steph,

Thanks for the info. Nice to read that Mr. Ong is active. I met him once a few years ago. When I'm next in Taiping I'll remember to call in and say hello.

I've removed the link that you gave as all references to MM2H agents is now via the Agency Companies board. If Mr. Ong and his company wish to post there they are free to do. They just have to adhere to the rules.

thanks,

Hi Scott,

Mr Ong is coming back to me on Monday with quotes. We went along to AIA to get a quote. They cant do me because I am over 60 but wife OK lah.  The interesting thing is that AIA can insure up to age 100 for locals and they are now clarifying whether it can be done for Expats. If it can then for anyone under 60 it is an attractive proposition.

For anyone over 60 I have some other options from agents in Australia.

Regards

Hi Bob,
I was looking into the AIA 'up to 100 yr old policy' and talked it over with my AIA agent a few months back as we are on the 'Spouse program' with them that insures me up to 65 and that's when MrBB will be 70 as I'm the principle insured (an advantage for the younger to be the principle insured)...but can't confirm is they still offer this to new applicants.
What I don't quite understand is my agent advised against the 100 yr old one for our case saying with riders and health issues it would be very high premiums and rather we save the difference in amount for when it's needed ??? He knows we are MM2Hers.
So that's my encounter with AIA '100 yr old policy' .

I was once quoted health insurance for over 65 by Prudential, but premiums were almost RM5000 each and the coverage not good. It also looked like it allowed a once only claim. Seriously not an option :'(

Just a thought but has anyone looked at the various companies offering travel insurance. You need to make some in depth enquiries but if you can qualify the coverage is pretty good in that it essentially repatriates you to your country of citizenship where most of us have free government health care. (apologies to those from the US). Let's face it what most people are looking for is the high cost critical care. The normal costs are quite low in Malaysia and many can perhaps deal with them without insurance.

Might be something to ask your broker.

Cheers

I am currently getting a couple of agents to look into the options for health cover in Malaysia.

What I have asked for is:

Age limits and loading factors for initial acceptance
Can policy be taken out without medical examination
Age limits for extensions
Can older of two partners be allowed based on age of the younger one
Cost
Schedule of cover
Hospitals included
Rules concerning Pre-existing conditions

Please let me know if there are any other questions you would like asking.

Which ever policy is taken out it is important to do it before the age of 60 and to check how long the policy can be extended for. The insurance business has changed a lot since the financial crisis and you may not be able to depend on extensions for current policies. It is worth checking and getting the answer in writing.

We went with Allianz and entry age is up to 69 years old.  I'm not sure what age you can go up to though - may be 69  :'(  Allianz office in Georgetown were MM2H savvy.  They do make exclusions of any existing issue though.

We would've gone with Kurnia for Mr P as they have a dedicated senior plan (Kurmia MediGuard Senior) which is for over 56 year olds and renewal to 75 years old OR 80 years old if they approve.  Unfortunately we weren't living in Penang then, pre MM2H, and the Kurnia agent was not MM2H savvy.  I understand now (someone posted on this forum somewhere recently) that if you go to Kurnia direct, MM2Hers can apply.  The Kurnia MediGuard Senior plan looked good to me and we may switch to that next year when we come up for renewal.

If you want any contact details, just let me know.  I think I may even have some brochures saved in pdf.

Yes, one qeustion: Guaranteed Renewal yearly or 5 yrly as per contract. Would they discontinue insuring?
According to my AIA agent he said some medical insurance companies do not give guaranteed renewal after the initial year or 5 year if there happened to be a fair amount of claims the preceeding year even if the insured amount is not reached or used up. My policy states the Guaranteed part.
The insured can be caught unprepared to be told sorry we can't renew the insurance :o

Thanks  :)
